Also, even though it seemed obvious that Alexis wanted the Elmo for herself, with all of the kids running around and yelling all the time, they are all pretty good at ignoring each other. So they may not have noticed. Especially with the mountain of toys going into the shopping cards anyway.

Thanks for correcting me on the kids - the only one I really know by sight is Hannah because of her long hair, and the fact she's the "favorite" so she gets talked about more.

I used to have trouble telling some of the kids apart, but now unless it's not a full face shot I don't usually get confused. Alexis' hair is lighter than Leah's (I think Alexis and Cara are the only ones who have what I'd call dark brown hair rather than black).

Alexis and Leah in general do look more alike than either looks like Hannah. And Joel and Collin look more alike than either looks like Aaden (even without his glasses, Aaden has somewhat different features).

BTW, I may have said this before, but not only was Alexis SO CUTE in the hallway sequence where Hannah smacked her ("I don't know why her do that", said with palms plaintively upraised), but Hannah looked adorable. Very pretty and just mischevious. Because I can't picture any 6 kids accepting the fact they are all getting one toy or at least, they weren't the ones who got to pick out (and have primary custody) of the toy. If it was as peaceful as shown on tv, I would love to see how Kate managed to do that to try with my 2 kids!

I will say though, I was happy it was Leah who picked out the toy because at first I thought it was Hannah and I was cringing at the thought of what certain people were going to say about that.

It was Alexis, not Leah.

The editing and Kate's explanation were both a bit disjointed, but here is what I *think* happened:

1) Alexis sees Elmo, and either wants him for herself or wants him as one of her gifts to give to the kids at St. Jude's (she may not have been sure; it was mentioned that the little kids were having a bit of trouble with the concept, rather understandably).

2) Kate says no, because the rules at St. Jude's don't allow for donations of stuffed animals.

3) Alexis, really, really, really wants Elmo.

4) Kate tells Alexis to add Elmo to her Xmas list.

5) Somewhere in here, Elmo ends up in the cart.

6) What I think happened was that Kate agreed to buy Elmo that day, and give him to Alexis as a Christmas present. That way, Alexis is pacified, and Kate doesn't have to get stuff for all of the kids, on a trip that's meant to be focussing on the St. Jude's kids.

7) Kate then mentions Alexis' "crocodile tears" (and does a rather hilarious imitation of them) back at the hotel; Alexis is apparently made bereft by the lack of toys the kids have to play with in their hotel room. (I guess they didn't bring any toys on the trip?)

8) Kate gives in and allows Alexis to have Elmo early, but only with the caveat that he must be shared.

I really saw both sides of this one. I felt like Kate had every reason to stand her ground, but OTOH, I remember being a young child and just really wanting a doll or toy and thinking that if I couldn't have it *right then* it would be a catastrophe. So I don't blame Kate for folding.Guineverehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12594898905741204155noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-875099505545555742.post-71874791061660939802008-12-18T20:30:00.000-08:002008-12-18T20:30:00.000-08:001st I would like to say the children at St. Judes ...1st I would like to say the children at St. Judes have been blessed by the toys from this episode.

Also

You never hear Kate OR Jon say they were "BUYING" the gifts. If I were to actually type what you need to type, it won't post correctly, because it would read the code and hide the special characters. She was so cute.

*Kate's demeanor/smile/cheerfulness visiting with the sicker children in their rooms. I liked her smile and calling herself a nurse. Once a nurse, always a nurse.

*The truck box was broken! I LOVED it. There is NO WAY my kids would have easily given away those toys. We would have had more than one toy "tested." The Gosselin boys are really cute.

*Kate saying, "The end!" in the middle of the book because, well, it was bedtime, and there was no way she was finishing it, and they weren't really listening all that well, and she was done with that product endorsement. It was the best, most natural part of that scene, and it made me laugh.

*Jon talking about worrying for those ducks.

*The cancer survivor who provided the St. Jude's tour for them. She was young and pretty and exceedingly positive, and she gave off a really great vibe. She was a nice addition to the show.

*That little girl in the pink dress. I hope we see her again on the show, like a special 25 years from now.Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05884219068017641778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-875099505545555742.post-10702378263412518772008-12-17T09:42:00.000-08:002008-12-17T09:42:00.000-08:00loven up the gosselins said... B/c of this visit to St. Jude's (haven't seen the epi so not sure what they donated), was nothing short of a wise use of their time..paid or not.

To say that noone in PA in their community will benefit from this "damage control" is...stupid.

Sick children enjoy visits from anyone who can put a smile on their face--and it makes them get through another day of the struggle to get well.

You don't know what it will take sometimes to help a child heal from a devestating cancer or disease. But one things for certain--that smile travels father than any dollar that I know of.

Children and adults in PA will benefit in one way or another.

The most ideal in this case would be if the kids in PA don't benefit at all b/c that would mean they won't have to deal with deadly cancers and illnesses.

It is petty, awful, and cruel to suggest where someone's charitible givings should go.

If you don't approve of the G's, just don't watch.

If you don't approve their choice of charity, noone is tying you down and forcing you to donate.

I can't wait to watch the episode. It will further my agenda in teaching them about caring for other people and giving.

Lessons evidently that some folks as adults haven't gotten, yet if they think it is okay to criticize others.

Live and let live.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
