Good Morning America

For those who are interested, the Gosselin family are to appear on Good Morning America on 10/16/08. The entire family will be on and they will be answering viewer questions. You may also send in your questions to ABC by going here.

A word to the set designer - no giant pencils, ok?

I haven't watched these in the past (Oprah, etc.), but I think I'll set my DVR.

Poor GM. I am sure they will have a lot of garbage to wade through to get to some intelligent viewer questions.

It would be nice if GMA did pose some questions that really gave us an inside glimpse of things.

Such as:

How do Mady and Cara handle the show? Are they teased for being shown falling down, crying etc.

What happened to Beth?

I think those are legitimate questions without hammering them to death.

Musings from Me said...

I left 2 comments on the GMA site. Neither were posted. Hmmm

Mom on the run

They are not comments to be posted. You are suppose to leaves questions that you would like asked when the Gosselins are on the show on 10/16/08. That is my interpretation, anyway.

BEE said...

I do think an appropriate question would be why isn't Beth part of the book promoting.

Anonymous said...

Bee,

Absolutely! That question is SCREAMING for a response. Surely someone will get around to asking that.

Anya@IW said...

Bee, I agree, that's a fair question. Beth is still on the book jacket - correct?

Of course, I have seen clips of these previous interviews and I think it will be difficult to get into any in-depth Q&A with six four-year-olds on the set.

We will see.

Have fun, ABC! I hope you have an army of e-mail screeners that can separate the valid questions from the intrusive demands that your e-mail box is getting flooded with. I remember some of the questions posted here by the "advocates," a couple weeks ago, most of which can be answered with a simple "none of your business" by the Gosselins.

Musings from Me said...

ninabell--my comments were questions. I used the wrong term in my comment here.

Mom on the run,

My mistake, sorry. When I first looked at that site, I thought they were only allowing questions to be submitted to GMA. I just noticed now that they actually have a few posted underneath the area where you submit. It appears that they are moderating those comments/questions??

I would say that's a good assumption. They probably get so many comments it would overrun their servers, so they post the "best" ones. I've seen other news agencies do this.

On another note, I can say they will probably never get a "tough" question on one of these interviews, especially if it's connection to a book deal. They have specific questions most likely ran through their PR person before they go live. They might even know the questions before hand. I have a feeling the questions tomorrow will be mostly made up of feel-good questions, most we already know the answer to. I still think the kids are cute though!

I have my DVR set! Hopefully, it won't be quite as chaotic as Regis and Kelly.

Watching GMA right now- I could NOT handle making meat loaf this early in the morning! The kids play so well- it's hard to believe there were no major meltdowns bc I'm sure they had to get up very, very early- I'm guessing a nap will be in order this afternoon. Unfortunatley, I missed the first segment! Did I miss anything Big?

Kikibee said...

The kids held it together pretty well for the first segment. A little fighting at the end. Cara was NOT happy, but Mady was ok and spoke a little.
The usual questions- how'd you find time to write the book, how did the show come about, tummy tuck,
critical blogs, is it good for the kids? The usual answers- people look at us anyway, so we just let the cameras in, this makes it possible for us both to be home with the kids.

A Beth shout out- "Beth Carson helped you with the book" "Correct". I'm sure Kate said it with a nasty, black or evil look. I don't have my special opposite-of-rose-colored glasses on, so I don't know which. Jon was eating the meatloaf, so I guess he really does like it.

There's a seven minute clip of their appearance on GMA. They were just starting on the book when it ends. Bummer. The kids look pretty sleepy. Cara and couple of others look bored, like the “having to be still in church” look IMO.
I hope someone posts it, I missed it.

Thanks merryway,

I wasn't able to watch the show live but did catch the clip. The kids do appear like they are really getting use to doing these shows and even somewhat bored. Especially Cara. They also showed a few seconds of them going to pre-school. I still have to watch the clip of Kate making meatloaf. Maybe we will have to post the recipe on our Favorite Recipe post.

Before there is a hundred comments about Cara looking miserable; keep in mind that she is the one that hates to get up early so just pretend that her issue today (since it most likely really was). It was great to see such a chipper and happy Mady too. Sounds like they are having a fun little trip in NYC, I wish I could have gone to see Mary Poppins!

Laura said...

Oh yeah, and how cute was Sprouse twins playing with all the Gosselin kids at the end! The 4 year olds may not know who they are but I'm sure Mady & Cara were excited!

Nina Bell said...

Hi Laura

Well I didn't say miserable, I said bored. I think that is what merryway said also. I guess what I was trying to say is that I think these kids are getting use to this, the morning talk show routine and it is more the norm for them.

Dina said...

I didnt get to watch the show this morning, but I did watch the 2 clips and I enjoyed them. I think Kate looked good, and of course the kids were adorable!!

Daisy said...

I thought the kids for the most part well were behaved. I also think that Cara was just tired. I thought it was good that they addressed the blogging.

I can't wait to try that meatloaf.

Unknown said...

I thought Kate did a nice job. I liked that the kids were down low playing.

Samantha@IW said...

What exactly was said about the blogs? I missed that part.

Unknown said...

What did everyone think about the Jon's answer to why they do the show? He basically said the reason for the show was "everyone wants to know about them, so it's better to keep people updated, rather than constantly do media updates."

For, me that was kind of a lame, sort of conceited answer. Yes, HOM births get a lot of press initially, then really does anyone care? Does Jon really think "the press" would be hounding his family if they didn't do the show? I don't think the McCaugheys, the Masches, the Harris family, etc. have this issue. This family is in the spotlight, because they choose to be. When the show gets cancelled or they choose to stop filming, do will there be a public outcry? I think not. JMO

BEE said...

They just said that there were many blogs that supported the Gosselins, however there were also critical blogs out there. I think that was pretty much it.

I thought they did a nice job this morning. The kids were really well behaved, some seemed bored/tired, but most played with the toys quietly. Jon and Kate seemed in good spirits.

I did think it was interesting that Diane (was it Diane?, not sure) but whoever was asking Kate the questions about the book said that Beth "helped" with it...isn't she one of the authors? I am still wondering what the story with Beth is? Not that it is really any of my business but sometimes my curiosity gets the best of me.

I also wish that they would start asking different questions or addressing different issues. I agree that they probably won't get any really sticky questions during an interview but don't we all know the answers to how the show got started and that Kate had a tummy tuck?

LOL. I haven't seen the show yet, but I agree, I think he could have come up with a better answer than that!

I assume it was just Jon being Jon - not the most articulate guy on the block. Maybe he should just let Kate answer the "tough" questions...!

Thanks, I didn't realize there were two clips. I just now watched the meatloaf clip. Kate is much more poised interacting and demonstrating vs. just being interviewed. I thought she was more at ease and came off well. I also liked the kids playing in front.
She is everywhere these days.

I didn't see it, but I think that is weak answer. I would have said, money, future security. That's why most of us work. I do think it's a big perk to be home with their family.

Also, IMO I don't think Kate is much of a stage mom. I think it speaks well that the kids get out there and are themselves. I'm sure they're told to behave and that sort of stuff. But just that Cara is allowed to sit there staring and blasé vs. having to sit still with her legs crossed, looking attentive, etc. kind of shows to me that it's not a hard-nose situation.

I just got done watching the GMA first clip regarding the book.

Robin Roberts asked them how the show came about and Jon answered that he developed their first website and that their producers contacted them via that. I seem to remember that Julie has said that Kate "shopped" around their story to the highest bidder.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I only watched the seven minute clip but, to me, Cara is clearly unhappy. She's hot (she wanted to take her sweater off), bored and probably (conjecture alert) tired of being in front of a camera.

If she just looked miserable today I'd say "oh, she's just having an off day" but going back to the GH article photoshoot and other pictures. This is clearly not her thing (to me).

As great as it is to see all of the kids....I think more and more they need protection. They need to be able to opt out of these things. Today is a school day and I'm sure they didn't get to go in. Maybe Cara's bothered that she has to miss another day of school to sit on a sound stage and be stared at.

I realize all of my posts lately have been somewhat negative sounding but, it's going beyond just the minutia. Cara's non-verbal message was clear "I don't want to be here"

I realize that every kid has to do things that they don't want to do, but, I guess I just hope that they are keeping an eye out for how their kids are responding to all of this ( a REALLY critical eye).

Samantha@IW said...

NMD-
I agree. I would imagine that this kind of thing gets old for them and that school can be weird at times. Thank God my childhood meltdowns and family squabbles weren't on tv for my classmates to see- the thought makes me cringe even now. The kids do get a lot of opportunities that they probably wouldnt have if not for the show (as Kate has pointed out many times), the twins are old enough to realize that that good things come from the show as well- I wonder if they think the good outweighs the bad, or if they would trade the free vacations and "stuff" for some privacy and downtime?

Kuromi said...

For everyone who was bored with the same ol' questions being asked, here's an ABC News story that also includes off-camera interviews with the twins and the parents:
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Parenting/story?id=6042238&page=1

It's still fluffy, but at least there's a couple of minor details, like comments from the twins themselves, that we don't usually here.

I think the fact that GMA, and every other daytime TV interview, asks the same questions proves this: Jon & Kate + 8 is still a minor cable TV show. Those who love them are a minority of TV viewers; those who rabidly hate them, an even smaller group.

merryway said...

From the GMA article referred to above:
We have lived through a lot -- just about every situation you can imagine," said Kate, 33, of her experience raising six girls and three boys at their central Pennsylvania home, where the TLC film crew comes three times a week for about two hours each day.

Sometimes when they're at home we see them from morning til night. Then, there are the day long outings and vacations. Maybe they're only counting camera time on the children as the two hours a day?
The statement in the article makes it seem like a light schedule.

Unknown said...

The statement in the article makes it seem like a light schedule.

"seem" is used to make a blantant lie amibiguous, IMO. Do you really think anyone's lives are so linear that if you take four hours out of our day for three to four consecutive days - the things that occur during this time frame can be constructed into a "story"? Doubtful. 3 to 4 hours of filming will yield, if you are lucky about 2 minutes of usable footage.
Goodness - do you really think the Gosselin household would really be outfitted with permanent industrial lights, the night cam cameras in the kids' rooms, and the shades added if the cameras were only present 3 to 4 hours a day over a 3 to 4 day period weekly?

Jon and Kate plus 8 is essentially the Truman Show for those poor children.

EveryoneLovesErin said...

Merryway,
Yeah, I don't buy that at all. They keep changing up what they say. At the speaking engagement I went to, they said between 3 and 10 hours I believe.

More and more (as I stated earlier) I'm seeing the need for some intervention from professionals. I don't think Kate and Jon are abusing their kids or that they are terrible parents but I thing outside, unbiased adults need to be apprised of what is actually going on.

merryway said...

Well, ABC news / GMA needs to get their facts straight. It's not written as part of Kate's quote.
I expect more from a news channel. I am not entirely trusting of the media, but they should get the details straight in a simple story like this.
This part of their journey in celebrity status interests me. They're out of their comfort zone and having to face the real world instead of the TLC world that has been shown to us. If they are spinning things, it will come out. In this era, it's hard to hide anything once you're under the spotlight.
At the twin's age, it would just be a nice time to quit.

I have free time today!! Hence, all the posts.

Good point, Merryway.

This is how things get misconstrued.
I should have read too, before commenting.

I just watched the show on YouTube and I felt bad for Cara. IMHO she looked miserable. Im not a morning person either but she looked even more miserable than me when my husband has dragged me off to racing events in the early morning hours. Hopefully they will tone down some of their appearances so that the kids do not have to be on the go all the time for this. They may just have to get through alot of these shows promoting the book without an actual book junket. I saw on some other blogs that Kate was curt when asked about Beth helping write the book and she glared and stated correct. I honestly did not see her look angry. It seemed she answered in a factual short way. I figure if she did have a falling out with Beth that is a diplomatic way of saying she helped without going into more of an answer on the book then them leading into asking questions about Beth. Alot of that is conjecture as well since neither Kate nor Beth has made any public remarks in regards to their current friendship. I think the kids looked adorable as always. Go Collin!!! :) Again felt bad for Cara. She even distanced her body off to the side in the beginning of the segment. Im not bashing on Jon or Kate, just sharing some observations on my part.

To the anon poster that just posted a good point on here, I am sorry but I had to delete your entry. If you could take a second to re-post...click on name/URL and put anything your heart desires in there.

The anon posts get too confusing to follow.

Thanks...
