Tara and Bella--The Unlikely Pair

I think the ending of this video says it all. What is our excuse? Is there a way to look past differences—different interests, different opinions, different lifestyles? It amazes me how in the Gosselin world, your entire worth as a human being (intellect, values, even what kind of parent you are) is judged based on what you think. I’ve had the pleasure of being called a “lover of child exploitation” when nothing can be further from the truth. I know I’ve also judged someone because of their affiliations with certain groups. Are we as human beings only capable of getting along with those who share our world view?"

The embedded video is too large for this post and we needed to placed it in a separate "gadget." You can find the video and the bottom of this page.

Oh my goodness. When the video first started, I thought it would be lame (no offense, it just didn't seem that great). By the end, I had a lump in my throat and a small tear in my eye. When the man carried the dog out to see the elephant, and the elephant cried out...wow.

Thanks for the reminder about judging, and not trying to remove the speck in someone else's eye when I have a log in my own.

Life is too short to get caught up in petty arguments. I will try to be better!

This video is so thoroughly beautiful. Its true that all of us deserve the chance to try getting along, even when we disagree. I watched this the other day with my nephew who loved seeing the 'arf arf' (dog) :).

Good point about life being too short to get caught up in the petty arguments, scarfoot-- I am also working on stepping away from drama (not here but elsewhere :)!) and trying to rise above. Not as easy as it sounds though....

Thanks for the video nomoredrama.
I felt the same way as scarfoot when you first sent it to me. I think I have watched it 10 times since.

Good question! I don't believe we're only capable of getting along with those who share our view, but it sure is a lot easier. When I want/need validation I call my twin sister. We think so much alike that she agrees with almost everything I have to say on any issue. I also purposely seek out people that have a different outlooks than I do. I learn a lot that way.
I do have some standards though, if the word "sheeple" or "Kon" is in a post or if the children are demeaned,to me, their argument has already been lost.

Interesting point, Rain. We've had to reject several comments tonight from a poster in part because the username she chose seems unnecessarily inflammatory and hostile.

I think I have trouble relating to the level of anger that so many of the negative posters seem to have towards the Gosselins. My mind immediately goes like this: someone really angry about something that has nothing to do with them=projecting and working out their own personal issues on the Gosselins. It makes balanced discussion difficult.

Wonderful video, by the way. So sweet the way the elephant sat vigil.

Thanks, NMD. It might sound too easy to many, but I think if some people took the time to watch this and take a few quiet moments to reflect, it could do nothing but better our relations both IRL and on the internet.

It was beautiful. I have a special love for elephants so this was very poignant for me.

Thanks for the video Nomoredrama. Great lesson learned.

I can't wait to show it to my little ones.

Love the video. It really made me stand by and think.

How I wish others (in the Gosselin blog world)would take a look at it.

It really makes you stand back and think.

I'm an identical twin too

I think that as a culture, we've really lost the ability to discuss and reach consensus. Instead of discussion, we've got debate which makes one side the winner and the other side the loser.

Great video!

I agree, Linda. I think in embracing the freedom to debate an issue people forget the next reasonable step is to reach a concensus in order to resolve the issue....like everyone wants to to cook the dish, but no one wants to sit down and enjoy the meal.

Posters, IMO, who can't stand someone else who doesn't see things their way for the most part want validation for having opinions that matter in their "real" lives and aren't getting it.

I love elephants. Their emotions and bonds amaze me. The elephant rubbed the dog's belly?! Amazing.

Thank you for the video and nice thoughts for the morning.

Ditto me for what Anya said above.

This was a great way to start my day!I LOVE this video, it is so beautiful and touching. I got really choked up watching this. What a great message to send out, acceptance of one another and not judging just because someone is different from you. I can't wait to show this to my family. Thanks, nomoredrama.

What a heartwarming story. NMD, you need to pop in more often.

Thanks NMD awesome story. Maybe the fact that they can't speak helps their friendship :)

That was beautiful :) What a nice ending to an otherwise crappy day.

I LOVE this video. It is so sweet. I shared it with my daughter today. I actually did not know that elephants have "best buds" that way. I knew they were intelligent, social, and highly communicative, but I didn't know they bonded with a special friend in that way.

Me too!!! No offense taken, when I first saw it I was like "what IS this"

I know my write-up is a bit touchy-feely so thanks for watching :-)
