Baby Mama has some great pictures and emails from two different students regarding Jon's speaking engagement at Penn State on 02/06/08. Jon discusses their new nanny, new puppies and signing on for a 5th season. Click here to go to that site.

Thanks, BabyMama. Breaking news in the emails: a fifth season and two German shepherd puppies. I like the names. :)

Great pictures of Jon. I am anxious to see the puppies. Two German Shepherd puppies. Someone is going to have their hands full. Sounds like they now have some consistent help which is good for everyone.

I wonder if the help is live-in help? Not asking to criticize that it's wrong, because a lot of families do it. But I just wouldn't want someone else around in my family's downtime. Wonder how that works?

Looks like it's coming up soon. TLC has this description listed for the 2/23 episode:

Now that the Gosselins live in a more spacious home, Jon and Kate have agreed that it's time to expand their already large family. To the delight of the Gosselin children, the whole family sets out to get two new puppies!

I think Jon probably has a good time speaking on his own.

I am glad they got the puppies, and I think German Shepherds are wonderful dogs.

Not sure. I tend to think Kate would be similar and not want some else around on a full-time basis. I agree with you - I wouldn't want to give up the privacy even to get the extra help. Not that I am the financial position to even consider it. LOL.

I was at the speech as well, I have some pics, but they aren't that great. I also managed to tape 95% of what he said on my cell phone, but don't know if I'd be able to post it anywhere without getting in trouble. Any advice on that?

Unbelievable some of the things I've read about his speech, but, such is life when you don't want to admit someone like Jon Gosselin actually has fans. Lots of fans.

Actually a little surprised at the breed. German Shepherds are tremendously loyal and intelligent. But whoo boy....they can SHED. I was expecting Kate to go for the shed- free breed like a Labradoodle. Just wait until spring when they lose that winter coat. That hairballs she'll be Swiffering up! Lordy!

I think we can guess as to the breed choice. Shepherds are very good protectors. Gee, I wonder what they think they need protection from? (insert eye rolling emoticon HERE)

I loved reading both of these. A Big Thanks to BabyMama and those that attended and shared.

It sounds like Jon has a good time at these. I'm also betting the German Shepherds are for protection. I hope they get a top notch trainer so that they are truly security dogs. The kids will have a blast, they are so fuzzy wuzzy before their adult hair grows in. I prefer different breeds for myself (Golden Retrievers my fav) but I love do love Shepherds and Huskies. I'm betting they're going to be outside in a nice place or restricted place in the house. With two big ones that is going to be a lot of hair.

However, the event quickly ended and was pretty chaotic when Jon told everyone that they could just come down and grab some of the free stuff that he brought with him to give away (sunglasses, t-shirts, photographs, etc.). This brought an onrush of about a billion love-struck coeds which quickly brought the event to an end.

The mom in me thought this was awful. I can't imagine the chaos with the students. No wonder Kate yells at him. :)

I can imagine going through all those sitters. I would have liked to have seen some of that on the show.

It does sound like Kate's working too hard. I hope she's taking good care of herself. I hope she's enjoying it. My bet is she's doing it all for when she can take a deep deep breath and relax know that their future is truly secure.

How great that they are the producers of their show. I wonder how it will change. I thought at some point it might become a point of "who's working for who?" We hardly saw anything of Kate before (I had never heard of her before a year ago) and now she's becoming a household name. I think that's incredible.

I can't wait to see the puppies! I imagine that protection is part of what the Gosselins had in mind when choosing that breed. Are German Shepherds like other shepherd breeds in that they actually herd? I've never heard of them being used that way, but if they are that would be a useful quality for keeping an eye on the kids.

My mom had a German Shepherd when I was very little, but I don't remember him well. They are beautiful dogs.

Border Collies and Australian Shepherds tend to "herd" children. German Shepherds are also herders, but they are more for protection than anything. German Shepherds and Labradors are generally the top picks for guide dogs and law enforcement, so you know that they're intelligent and loyal. And yes, I hope that Jon and Kate invest in some top notch training for the doggies, as well.

Sheps are also number one as far as reported biting incidents, but rarely do they turn on their own family. It's outsiders and threats that they go after. Proper training is essential. My grandparents had a huge German Shepherd when I was little. He lived to be 17, which is extremely unusual for such a large breed. But that dog was the smartest dog I ever saw. He would trace my steps through the house after I left and then lay by the door and wait for me to come back. My grandfather would put a meatball on the floor and tell King, "NO" and walk out of the room. Twenty minutes later, he'd return. King would be laying on the floor, his nose two inches from that meatball, drool flowing, but he would not touch the meatball until my grandfather said "okay."

I just can't wait to see Kate fussing about the dog hair, though. I'll have to pop some popcorn for that one. Actually, I'm surprised they went with two puppies right off the bat. That's double the housebreaking and double the chewing, no matter what breed you buy. It's so much easier to housetrain a pup when there's an older dog around for the pup to mimick. Plus, I never want to have to deal with two dogs growing old at the same time. Having an older dog that you've loved for so long, start to deteriorate is bad enough, but two at the same time would kill me. My current two dogs are five years apart. My older one is almost 10 and I'm dreading the gray fur and cloudy eyes that I'm starting to see. Also, her hearing isn't as good as it once was. It's a bit depressing.
