WICKED REWRITTEN... A PARODY

Inspired by the Musical "Wicked." The story behind the "witches" of OZ....

On August 23, 2008 the world joined in celebration as “Jodi the Good” was heralded by the citizens of “BLOG”….

CITIZENS OF BLOG: Ev'ry day, Kate’s more wicked! Ev'ry day, the terror grows! All “are” blog is ever on alert! That's the way with Wicked -Spreading fear where e'er she goes, Seeking out new victims she can hurt!

SNARKSALOT: Like some terrible green blizzard, throughout the land she flies:

JULIE: Defaming our poor Jodi with her calumnies and lies!

All: She lies! Save us from the Wicked! Shield us so we won't be hexed! Give us warning: Where will she strike next? Where will she strike next? Where will she strike next!?

JODI:(spoken) Fellow Blogians - as terrifying as terror is, let us put aside our panic for this one day--and celebrate! (sung) Oh what a celebration we'll have today

CROWD: Thank Goodness!

JODI: Let's have a celebration the Jodi way!

CROWD: Thank Goodness!

SERMANLA: Fin'lly a day that's totally Gosselin free!

CROWD: We couldn't be happier, Thank Goodness!

JODI: Yes - We couldn't be happier, Right, Julz? Couldn't be happier, right here. Look what we’ve got, a fantastic plot, our very own happy ending. Where we couldn’t be happier, True Sis? Couldn’t be happier. And we’re happy to share our ending vicariously with all of you. Kate couldn’t look bitchier, I couldn’t be “humbler,” We couldn’t be happier. Because happy is what happens when all of BLOG loves you.

SERMANLA:(spoken) And Jodi dear, we're happy for you! As chief moderator, I have striven to ensure that all of BLOG knows the story of your braverism:

(sung) The day you were first summoned to an audience with BlOG, and although we did not tell you this initially. When you bowed before our throne, we decreed you'd hence be known As Jodi the Good - officially!

Then with a jealous squeal, The Wicked Kate burst from concealment where she had been lurking -surrpetitially! She had seen all your fan mail, and your praises made her wail…yes, she knew a mom like you she’d never be

CITIZENS OF BLOG: I hear she has an extra eye that always remains awake. I hear that she can shed her skin as easily as a snake! I hear some damn GDNNOPers are giving her food and shelter! I hear her soul is so unclean, pure water can melt her!

KEVIN: What!?

CITIZENS: Melt her!? Please - somebody go and melt her!

KEVIN: (spoken) Do you hear that - water will melt her?! People are so empty-headed, they'll believe anything!

JODI: (sung) That's why I couldn't be happier! No, I couldn't be happier. Though it is, I admit, the tiniest bit unlike I anticipated. But I couldn't be happier. Simply couldn't be happier. (Spoken) Well - not "simply": (Sung) 'Cause getting publicity, It's strange, but it seems a little - well – complicated. There's a kind of a sort of : cost. There's a couple of things get: lost. There are bridges you cross you didn't know you crossed until you've crossed. And if that joy, that thrill... doesn't thrill you like you think it will- still - With this perfect finale, the cheers and ballyhoo. Who wouldn't be happier? So I couldn't be happier. Because happy is what happens when all of BLOG loves you. Well, isn't it?Happy is what happens when all of BLOG loves you!

As someone who just recently went to see this play I am LOVING this! Thanks so much for having a better place to discuss the Gosselins!

First, I have the feeling I could appreciate this more if I had seen "Wicked." Sadly, I haven't, but it is coming to my town early next year and I cannot wait!

This is very clever, but it is also poignant (for me anyway).

Even though I don't agree with Jodi's choice in participating in the video, I honestly feel her pain. In addition to whatever fallout she's experienced with her sister-in-law, she now also has to carry the weight of being "Jodi the Good" for all the minions.

I don't know, I just feel that Jodi is being exploited by people with an agenda that I will never understand.

The "All" refrain exactly captures my concerns regarding the mob mentality of the Kate haters. They are the "mean girls" at school. The ones who pick apart every weakness. It's bully behavior even though it's directed at a grown woman, whose life is going pretty well (except for this drama) and who probably (hopefully) doesn't even know the extent of their loathing.

That is an interesting observation Anya that the very people who are so concerned about the exploitation of the children, have kind of exploited Jodi.

P.S. The show is freaking AMAZING (Wicked)!!!! Just wish I could have seen it when Kristen Chenowith and Idina Menzel were in it. 2 of my favs....

Hey, we could even use Rent as a parody....

"Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred blog posts, five hundred twenty-five thousand letters of hate" I could go on but my theatre dork side is showing....and I don't care :-)

"I hear some damn GDNNOPers are giving her food and shelter!"

This is great!! LOL

Anonymous said...

Heh. I loved the entry, even though I haven't seen "Wicked" either. But I've seen "Rent" on stage twice, as well as the movie. As well as listened to the cast recording a zillion times. Will we call the song "Seasons of Hate", or "Seasons of Glop"? (I just can't let the "glop" thing go!)

Love Rent....and the soundtrack is addictive, LOL!

Thanks, Linda for your thoughts. I don't pretend to *know* Jodi. I certainly don't want to put her on a pedestal - none of us can live up to that. From my limited viewpoint, she seems like a sweet person (I hate 'sweet', but it kind of describes her) and a good mom....But, my judgment is seriously flawed because I don't think Kate is THAT bad - right?!?

"I could go on but my theatre dork side is showing....and I don't care :-)"

Puleez. Go on!!! I need something to talk about other than what a Kate @#% is or isn't !

Do you like Andrew Lloyd Webber? I love "Evita". And "Phantom of the Opera". And, of course, "Rent". Yep, I'll gladly join your theatre dork club!

Popular...Jodi is Pop-U-hu-lar! :) Love wicked so much!

EveryoneLovesErin said...

Love Andrew Lloyd Webber...but I love Sondheim more...I LOVE Phantom!!! It's so moving. Also love Les Miserables.

Just watch, we're going to get nasty comments saying "I thought this blog was supposed to be about J&K"

OOOO Well!

I haven't seen much. I did see Phantom and Jersey Boys. Loved Jersey Boys. I have not seen Wicked so it is a little harder for me to relate to this also. I think I will download this song so I can have an idea.

Nina,
Here is a link to a youtube video...its weird, they used the SIMS in it but I won't post the illegal ones that were actually filmed in the theatre. Besides being obviously against theatre policy, they will get you sea sick with all of the movement.

Thanks fren,

That gave me a little flavor. I can see why Popular is popular!

I have a little thing against "Jersey Boys" because I was in Las Vegas a week ago and staying at the Venetian, where the show was playing. Every time I stepped on the elevator, I heard, "Sher-er-er-er-y ba-a-by". It was massively annoying. They played "Phantom" in the lobby (that was showing there as well); I would've rather heard that music.

Other good musicals: "Chicago". Oh, and "Avenue Q" - I got tickets a year ago for my birthday and I *loved* it. I still quote from the songs, especially, "Everybody's a Little Bit Racist Sometimes" and "What Do You Do With an English Major". Really, a great show - I would recommend it to anyone.

But it terms of really knowing and being moved by the music, yeah, I have to go with ALW - "Evita" and "Phantom" (even if other people think he's a hack), and "Rent".

EveryoneLovesErin said...

I haven't seen Avenue Q but I love Chicago....

JessieTYCG said...

Brilliant!! I love me a good parody (wink wink!) and Wicked is my all-time favorite musical. Thanks for combining two of my favorite things.....which reminds me of another musical - Sound of Music. "Raindrops on roses and wiskers on kittens..."

Other musicals I've seen:
Phantom of the Opera
Peter Pan
Annie Get Your Gun
Brigadoon
Cats
Lion King
Beauty and the Beast
Anything Goes
Oklahoma
...Does High School Musical count? LOL! Now I'm going to be singing show-tunes all day. "High on a hill was a lonely goat hearder.."

Did anyone else get the feeling that Jodi felt pressured to make the video? She didn't even do it at her own home, but at Julie's house.

I can't help but wonder if this has hurt her marriage. I hope not, she does seem nice.

But why all of the vengence from Julie toward Kate? There's got to be more to the story that we don't know.

Daisy said...

Anon 7:52 said "There's got to be more to the story that we don't know."

That's the key to the entire Jon & Kate world. We don't see their entire lives. We only see snippets of what the Figure 8 chooses to show us.

A couple of scenes that come to mind:

Kate telling the girls not to eat strawberries. We have no idea how many strawberries they ate or how many times Kate told them to stop before we saw her telling them to stop. Maybe Kate was worried about their dinner being spoiled. We just don't know.

The other scene is Hannah going to time out for playing with her cereal. We don't know how many times Kate told Hannah to eat and stop playing. We only saw Kate sending her to time out. She could have been told a few times to stop.

It's amazing to me that a tv show about a family could cause so much controversy and judgement of people that we don't know personally.

EveryoneLovesErin said...

Daisy...I agree...

Anon 7:52, I don't think Jodi was under pressure. Personally, I think that gives her too much credit. To me, the speech seemed rehearsed, like she and Julie had gone over it and over it until they got it right. I'm not saying she wasn't genuine in her hurt, I just think that she isn't much of a public speaker and that, in the beginning, her nerves were getting the best of her.

I am also baffled by how this video is supposed to be some smoking gun. Its a video of a person stating that "everything on Julie's blog is true" and "lots of people are supporting me." Since when do we, as people with think, just accept what someone (who clearly is not nbiased) says. I bet I think a lot of things are "true" that aren't necessarily.

And the dramatics of it all, that's why using a theatre production for the parody is so fitting. Julie says in her follow-up to GWoP "This situation is very difficult, but in the end, we each have to choose what we are comfortable living with. Nothing was done without careful thought, lots of tears and months of prayer."

I don't know about what their bible says but I think mine says something about "vengeance is mine." And of course, there is Matthew 18...but who cares about all of that silly nonsense, right? They "cried and prayed" together and God gave his blessing on them supporting a site that outright hates their family member. Yeah, that sounds like the God I worship.

EveryoneLovesErin said...

You know what, I take back that last paragraph. They don't have to live their lives by my interpretation of Christianity.

I wonder, though, if when they chose "what we are comfortable living with" they took into consideration what their kids were comfortable living with. I think, if I'm not mistaken, Cara, Mady and Ashton (I could be spelling her name wrong) were pals. Now, because both sets of their parents have their heads up their behinds, they don't even get to see them.

I think this is a situation where NONE of the adults are thinking about the children. I don't think what Jodi did was brave, I think it was selfish. I don't think that Kate allowing this to go on is righteous, again, both sides are being selfish. The parties most affected by it are the 12 kids...it's not fair to them...can their parents really comfortably live with that?

I cannot tell you how distasteful I find it when when religion and/or god are invoked to justify decisions. It's like an instant "I Can Do No Wrong" card because the almighty has supposedly blessed the action.

Puleez. Either make the video or don't. I don't approve, but who cares about my opinion anyway.

Just leave religion out of it and I'll have more respect for you.

I don't know if I think the kids are the *most* affected, but they are definitely affected, and are innocent in this mess. Kate and Jodi (and to the extent that they may be involved, Jon and Kevin) need to be mature and work it out. They don't have to be best buds. If Kate is as awful as Julie and now Jodi have said, then I would think Jodi and Kevin would want to limit contact. Similarly, from Kate's POV, I can see not ever really being able to trust Jodi again, considering her involvement with people who are vicious and hateful towards the whole Gosselin family. Now, real reconciliation *might* happen if Kate is willing to change her behavior (assuming there is behavior towards Jodi that really needs to change; I'm only going by what Julie has said, and she is an unreliable narrator at best) and Jodi really repents her behavior. But it won't be easy. I'm sure it will seem like I'm saying this just because I'm a supposed "Kate supporter", but whatever Kate has done to Jodi, Jodi's behavior is worse in my eyes, because she took it outside the family. That kind if disloyalty would be hard for me to get over.

EveryoneLovesErin said...

I agree...it sounds like Jodi hides behind other people a lot. She just doesn't seem to have a strong personality at all. Julie mentions Kevin going down to talk to Kate. Julie mentions Jodi talking to people at TLC. There is one phone call mentioned where Jodi calls Kate but it seemed like, a that point, the damage was done.

Not only did she take it outside of the family but it at least seems like she never took it to Kate in person, ever. That she is being heralded for being "brave" is absurd. Being brave would be standing up to Kate in person, not behind her back and, for months, through her sister (and possibly her husband). Brave would be, if you are so concerned about the well being of the children, getting people involved in an official capacity and advocating for them that way. Brave would be admitting you were wrong for handling the situation instead of trying to justify it with prayer and "tears."

Anonymous said...

I agree. Although I can see why Jodi talked to her sister initially about it (I use my sibling as a "sounding board" all the time), there was no reason for Julie to take it public in a blog or otherwise. She should have just left it at that. And for Jodi to condone her blog disappoints me. It's obvious that she loves the kids, but in the end, her failure to try to resolve it herself is what hurt them. I feel bad for all of them (Jon and Kate included) because the whole world didn't need to know ahout it.

Daisy said...

ITA will all the recent comments. This whole situation is just plain heart breaking. It's going to be harder to heal because it's been made public. Pride is at stake. If the relationships are restored it's going to take repentance and forgiveness on both sides.

I really hope for all their sakes that they can reconcile. It seems that Kate really loves her brother and that she and Jodi had a great relationship until this happened. A squabble over money, if that's what's really behind it, is not worth severed family relationships.

Very well said. I would hope this is a point just about all of us can agree on.

Daisy,

It does appear it comes down to money doesn't it. So sad. By the way I just saw Wicked and this was a pretty cute idea.

Daisy said...

Anon 4:11, from what we have seen it does appear that money is behind it, but remember that we have seen only one side of this. It takes 2 to tango.

I respect the Gosselins for keeping quiet on this. Julie said that they prayed and shed tears about this. From what I have studied in the Bible it says to "turn the other cheek," or keep silent. Vengence is Mine, says the Lord. Julie and Jodi did not do this.

This is just my experience and opinion.

Healing would be much easier had this not been made public.

No way Jodi was expolited. She is an adult with a sound mind. She made a conscience decsion. Not even close to a good comparison.

Dear Anons 8:30 and 8:33,

I am glad that think you know me so well. I know, I have no heart because I have a different opinion than you do. I know, anyone who doesn't think Kate is Osama Bin Laden or think that Jodi is a deity...must be pure evil.

I don't give a rats behind what you think of me. Hope you know that.

9,000 of all, read darling...read before inserting foot in mouth. I made the comment about religion then in the VERY NEXT breath I said
You know what, I take back that last paragraph. They don't have to live their lives by my interpretation of Christianity.

and, uh, the second comment you sited Just leave religion out of it and I'll have more respect for you

I didn't say that. Someone else did. And even if I did, your "Pot meets kettle" statement doesn't make sense. Then again, a lot of things you people do don't make sense.
