"Kate Gosselin, Power Mom"

The Ladies' Home Journal October issue with Paula Deen on the cover, features a monthly page called "Never Underestimate The Power Of A Woman." There is a small article on this piece called "Kate Gosselin, Power Mom." It does not appear to be on line yet but basically discusses Kate's hectic schedule raising 8 children and filming a reality TV show. It also plugs the Gosselin's new book, "Multiple Bles8ings: Surviving to Thriving With Twins and Sextuplets." It is written by Lisa Gerry.

Well that is certainly too bad. She has power over her kids, her husband, and possibly the people who make so much money off the show.

I don't consider this complimentary. How about, "Great Mom", or "Loving Mom"....not that would be something, something Kate Gosselin will not ever be.

I think you're wrong. There are times when Kate is very loving toward her children, and I honestly think that a lot of that gets lost as "Non-essential" footage. Their definition of power is like a "Power Nap" Getting quality nap in minimum time. With Eight Children to keep after and a house to take care of, who wouldn't be a mom in consentrated doses?

I'm really glad that my life isn't on tv so that people could pick apart my parenting and communication skills. Really, when did we as a viewing audience become the Judge, Jury and Executioner for Kate Gosselin? Perhaps she is a terrible person, who cares? Have you ever been around a passel of kids the same age? It is like a pack of wolves, they feed off oneanother and are constantly claiming their positions in the pecking order of things. I used to teach 3 year olds Sunday(at church) through Friday(at a Child Development Center) usually no fewer than 19 children every day. I did have an assistant, but keeping them all happy and safe was a job in itself. My School room was always a disaster and I didn't have a camera on me 3 or more days a week.

I'm not saying Kate is perfect, nor that she deserves to be placed on a pedistal. I am saying Who is? and Who should be? Do you think you are the perfect mother/person of the year? I know I don't think I'm perfect. Kate doesn't set herself up as an a roll model for mothers, she sets herself up as one example of how a mother of eight runs her life.

Give the woman a break.

Interesting. At first I was confusing this with the "Good Housekeeping" photo shoot and episode that was coming up. It seemed strange that the article would be a short one. I get it now, this is another "women's" magazine I have never read!

I'll check it out. Sounds like their PR firm is doing what they are supposed to in anticipation of the book release.

I am undecided on buying the book. There is nothing I love more than reading and I am genuinely interested in the Gosselin's story - that's why I am here, but I just don't think we are going to get any revelations out of this. It's kind of the same reason I don't bother reading the memoirs of active politicians, etc....

Anya,

Ladies' Home Journal has been around forever. My mother read it and I continue to read it. I love the feature "Can This Marriage be Saved?" I was looking through the October issue and happened to see t the article on Kate. I would have typed the article with quotations but I certainly do not want to be accused of plagiarism.

She has power over her kids,

Well, I would hope so. Shouldn't most parents have power over their young children?

Oh, I think I have seen that feature. Sounds right up my alley. :-)

I have to go grocery shopping this weekend, so I'll be checking the magazine out.

Loved your comment, Guinevere...!

I hope they don't have a comments section when they post the feature on linmr...all the haters will come out again!

Poor Ladies Home Journal. They're about to get "GWoPPED."

My sympathies, LHJ. I hope you have people on staff ready to read the mountains of e-mails (from the unhinged) that you're about to receive.

Below is a link to a blog about a woman who has met the G's and has some really nice things to say. She is asking for other people who have met them to share their stories. There aren't a lot of comments there but it may be because she just started and hasn't had much exposure.

Okay, it's not a link, it's the address...I have no idea what I'm doing...lol

I have seen that link posted here a couple of times. Actually, the owner of that blog, I think her name is Martina, is pretty negative about the Gosselins when she posts on GWoP and the Penn Mommy site.

Really? That's not the impression I got from that site at all. How can you be sure it's her?

Because her picture is next to what she writes and if you click on it it goes to her blog.

I can't find her on pm's blog. Can you post a link?

Darn, I went to the grocery store today to look for the issue and it's wrapped in plastic. (I hate when magazines do that!)

I was already buying People Magazine (guilty pleasure) so I passed it up (for now).

I hope LHJ is ready for the attack of the "haters!" :)
