I'm 42 and listen to the younger music. I have an iPod and listen to anything from 3 Dog Night to Fergie. When I was always traveling for my job, I would download movies to it to watch on the plane. Now it's pretty much just music. I want fast music for working out. Mellow older music for when I'm cleaning the house.
Nina, Yep still got a record player. I'm old school and don't want to get rid of some vinyl.
Favorite 5: Edwin McCain- I'll Be Celtic Woman- Orinoco Flow David Cook- The Time of My Life Wille Nelson- Blue Eyes Cryin' In The Rain Phil Wickham- Cannons
My husband and I have one also and still have two very large boxes of record from the 70's. We listen every once and awhile. We have all of the Beatles on record but also have their music on CD. I will have to look at my iPod when I get home.

Musically I'm mostly stuck in the 70s.
I've read though everyone's list and I haven't heard of half of the artists. I'm so ancient.
We have XM radio. I listen to 7 (70's), 8 (80's), 9 90's) and 20 (20 on 20). When my husband is in the car and we are driving its NFL and Nascar that followed over from Sirius. (rolling eyes).
Nina, You brought back memories with the Beatles. God I'm feeling old.
I purchased ipods, but don't actually own one. Hmmm... I borrow my daughters' (or we'll share in the back because my son likes to drive.) I have no idea who I am listening to anymore, though they both have the sound track from Wicked and I recognize that. Happy memories.

I have a ton of stuff on my itunes, like 42 days of music, everything from Motzart to Eminem and back again. Some of that is stuff I don't like that my husband likes, like Jimmy Buffett,I prefer Dan Fogelberg, but to each their own, and I do love Cheeseburger in Paradise.
My parents were a big influence on my musical taste, they were into the Beach Boys, the Beatles and Dan Fogelberg, and then I learned about other music as I grew up. I like Pop, but I prefer the edgier alternative. I don't love rap, but I do like Eminem, but I think he has something to say and he does it a little differently than some of the rappers do.
I have really eclectic taste, I'll like something from an album, but not necessarily love the artist, I just like the sound of the cut. I like songs that don't sound like everything else out there. I like it different.
I have some of Elton John's songs. I really have a variety of music but nothing that the "young" people would probably like ( : I have the song, "Gloria" and "We are family". Yeah, I would probably be made fun of by what I have, especially by my young niece! in a good way though.
Mom,
Do not be embarressed! I'm so happy to see that I am not the only one with Neil Diamond & I see you also have Elton John ( :
I also love the voice of Andrea Bocelli--very relaxing!
Hey, I like Elton John. I don't even think of Elton John as embarrassing. I have "Tiny Dancer" on my iPod. I also really like "Daniel" and "Yellow Brick Road", to name a couple.
I consider Neil Diamond a teeny bit embarrassing (the ND song on my iPod, "If You Know What I Mean" - damn, I love that song). But really, it's music - if you like it, you like it - what's to be embarrassed about?
That said - possibly most embarrassing song on my iPod? Probably Britney Spears, "Everytime".
In general, I'm probably more into music that was a bit before my time. I do get bewildered by some of the popular music today - it happens to you, even if you think it isn't going to!
I like some Eminem too. Also some Dr. Dre. I think they might be the only rap/hip-hop artists on my iPod. Wait, I have "California Love" on there - that's Tupac, right? And Bone-Thugs-n-Harmony's "Crossroads" - that's a great song.
My mom is a big Neil Diamond fan, I was dragged to many a concert of his. I don't know why, but I was more into Tom Jones at that time. He oozed sex appeal. LOL I am old....
LOVE my I-Pod. I started out with a Mini and then upgraded to the I-Pod video. I have about 1400 songs, mostly classic hits.
Hey, I like Elton John. I don't even think of Elton John as embarrassing. I have "Tiny Dancer" on my iPod.
Okay, why is that embarrassing? "Tiny Dancer' is one of my all time favorite songs (and the scene from "Almost Famous" where they all start singing along to it is one of my favorite movie scenes). Best part of "27 Dresses" is when Heigl and Marsden butcher "Bennie and the Jets" at the bar. Elton is classic!
That said - possibly most embarrassing song on my iPod? Probably Britney Spears, "Everytime".
Ummm, yeah. I have "Baby One More Time" on my Pod. Yeah, I admit that's embarrassing.
As a child of the 70's and 80's, I have my fair share of campy, embarrassing bubble gum that I have downloaded and will unabashedly sing along to when no one is watching. Love my Motown, too.
There's another board I post on where they post a "Friday I-Pod Shuffle" thread (like above) and, you post the 10 songs that come up when you hit Shuffle, embarrassment be damned. Here's mine:
1. You Dropped a Bomb on Me: The Gap Band 2. All About Soul: Billy Joel 3. Understanding: Bob Seger 4. Maggie May (Unplugged): Rod Stewart 5. Born to Be Wild: Steppenwolf 6. The Spirit of Radio: Rush 7. Somebody Told Me: The Killers 8. Nights on Broadway: The Bee Gees 9. Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting: Elton John 10. Streetcorner Symphony: Rob Thomas
11. Do You Want to Touch: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts 12. Someone Saved My Life Tonight: Elton John 13. World: Five for Fighting 14. Anytime: Journey 15. Then Came You: The Spinners 16. Into the Great Wide Open: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers 17. Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Stevie Wonder 18. Holiday; Green Day 19. Thing Called Love: Bonnie Raitt 20. Old Man: Neil Young
You know, nothing really embarrassing has come up, has it? I know they're in there. Oh, HERE'S ONE. Heh. Beat this for embarrassing. "Down By the Lazy River" by the Osmonds. You know you can't! ;)
"Tiny Dancer' is one of my all time favorite songs (and the scene from "Almost Famous" where they all start singing along to it is one of my favorite movie scenes).
You know, I think it was that scene that made me really love that song; previously, it really wasn't one of my favorite Elton John songs. But it's so sweet.
I also have "I Want it that Way" by the Backstreet Boys on my iPod. Embarrassing, or not embarrassing?

(As you can see, I have Christmas music on there already :)! I am also a big fan of Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, but love musicals. In my ideal world, we would all randomly break out in song and dance routines... haha)
We have XM radio. I listen to 7 (70's), 8 (80's), 9 90's) and 20 (20 on 20). When my husband is in the car and we are driving its NFL and Nascar that followed over from Sirius. (rolling eyes).
I listen to the 80's and 90's also. I also listen to The Verge, 20 on 20, Alt nation and some other that i don't know the name of. Ever since they did the switch they have renamed some of the channels and I am lost now. I haven't been in the car enough to really look around the new channels and i can't get a signal here at work.
I am actually excited about the NFL being on there. I love the Broncos! :)
Lizabeth said..."In my ideal world, we would all randomly break out in song and dance routines... haha"
I have LOTS of songs from musicals on my iPod. Anything by Andrew Lloyd Webber. "Rent." Etc. I haven't seen "Wicked" yet, but based on everything people have told me about it, I know I will be adding that to my playlist as soon as I see it.

I completely agree about the song and that scene!
I think a great scene like that can really take your love of a song to a new level. I feel that way about the movie "Garden State". They played "The Only Living Boy in New York" by Simon & Garfunkel in one scene toward the end. I always loved that song, but it took it to a new level for me.
Anya, as soon as you listen to Wicked you will never be the same. I am re-reading the book (so I can read the next two in the series!) and have seen the play in Chicago. Phenomenal.... let me know what you think!

I post this for two reasons-- one, it deals with music and proves that generational gaps can be closed with the power of words. Two, I laughed when I watched it. A lot.

I'm embarrassed to say, I don't own an iPod, LOL! I do, however, have iTunes on my MAC and here is a sampling of my "at work" tunes:

Pink
Shakira
Neil Diamond
ELO

Elton John

Nina,
Yep still got a record player. I'm old school and don't want to get rid of some vinyl.
The first 10 tunes I came across with my iPod set on shuffle (I resisted the temptation to pick and choose in an attempt to look cooler):
Smashing Pumpkins – Tonight, Tonight
Erie Canal – Bruce Springsteen
When You Were Young – The Killers
A Place to Call Home - Kim Richey
Veronica – Elvis Costello
Side – Travis
Crawling Back to You – Tom Petty
Don’t Drink the Water – Dave Matthews Band
Over the Rainbow – Iz (I've had this on for forever; I didn't add it after Monday's show!)
Jump Around - House of Pain
Generally speaking, my iPod is heavy on Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Natalie Merchant and REM. But I have fairly eclectic musical tastes.

My favorite work-out song that never fails to pump me up: "Atomic" by Blondie.

And I have a Zune, not an ipod. Go against the grain, people (LOL)!
Eminem which I've always been embarrassed to admit!
I was too, until another friend of mine said the same thing! I think his writing is incredible, violent and hostile, but incredible!
I love eminem :-) I'm also embarrassed to admit it.
