New Episode - All You Wanted to Know

For years viewers have marveled as Jon and Kate raise their brood. Through viewer e-mails and video uploads, hundreds of viewers have inquired about the Gosselins. Now, Jon and Kate sit down to answer their questions. It's all you wanted to know and more!

The question I wanted answered is what happened with Beth. Jon answered this question with his video interview. So everything is all good.. :)

I hoping for some *new* questions (probably like everyone else.)

Another show the children don't have to participate in, but I am sure the haters will still find plenty to complain about. Everyone get out their tape measures - look how far apart Jon & Kate are on the couch! Etc. Etc. Etc.

I will say I usually enjoy the question episodes cause you get some insight into things you usually don't see on camera but I wonder why they've become more and more common. I'm sure "some" would say it's because the "internet is on to them". I for one think that because of their growing popularity they're just getting more questions from new fans and they want to solidify that fan base.

Guinevere said...

I wonder if those episodes have done particularly well, ratings-wise. If so, maybe that's why they're having another.

Jenn said...

I just hope they answer some new questions this time. I'm always curious as to what they will agree to delve into.

If my question were ever, "What's it like to raise 8 kids?" I just got that one answered too, sort of.
My daughter had a sleepover last night for her birthday since MLK Day today means no school, with 3 other girls all age 5, 6, 7, and 9. My 7yo son had his 10 yo cousin stay.

We started with ice skating yesterday at 2 p.m. and here I am at 8:30 a.m. with 3 hours to go til pickup.

OMG!!!
And I always thought, we'll it can't be too hard... HA!

When the ice rink said they were out of hot chocolate, my husband had the nerve (laughing here, because it was really him being nice and me being a little Kate-like) to rattle off 2 slushy choices and three drink flavors. I'm like, they don't get choices, there's too many (I did pause in my head and acknowledge to funniness of my comment).

So all ended up with blue slushies. And the noise level at home with our wood floors is straight through the roof. If I normally had that many kids, man the wall-to-wall carpeting would be installed immediately. HELLOOOOO! Empire!

Anyways, I now have a renewed sense of appreciation for what they must go through. And they've even had 4 years to perfect some tricks along to way.

Hope this made you laugh a little. Happy Monday!

The Q&A shows are my favorite episodes. Hopefully Jon will be able to answer as many as Kate does. She tends to do most of the talking.

Anonymous said...

Jenn -

We've had my friends kids and my kids spend the night together and I swear I was counting down the hours until they were picked up. It was only 6 kids.

The noise -- Wow!
The activity level -- Wow!
The constant jockeying for being in spotlight -- Wow!

Your post made me laugh.

I'd love for them to answer why we don't see Beth any more.

And I predict that the answer will be . . .

We're still close. Beth is a full-time college student completing her bachelor degree.

I would love to hear more about the process they went through looking for a new house.

I would also be interested in hearing more about the other "jobs" they do, ie what is Kate doing in NY, speaking engagements etc.

Do you think they will make a statement about Jodi/Julie????

rain88 said...

My favourite part of the show is the kids. It nice to see (for the kids sake) they might be filming less kid episodes and concentrating on J&K. I don't really enjoy the Q&A episodes. I love the 8, not so much J&K.

Lizzy said...

I agree with a lot of what has already been said, but would also like to hear from the kids what they like about the show. It'd be interesting to hear Mady and Cara's take on things. Only catch is that if its negative the "haters" will be out in full force, then if its positive they will cry foul and say they were prompted by these magical PR fairies who swoop down and tell kids what to say.

I would love to hear how they are preparing for the kids future, too-- I suspect from what I have read that the money from pictures goes into their school funds, as well as a portion of the money from the show. I just wonder if thats something they would address so people can be reassured that all they make is not spent on houses (which are a great investment anyway for a large family) and the like.

Anya@IW said...

CincyMom, thanks for giving me my morning laugh. I especially liked the account of the slushies!

Are your ears still ringing?

The best part about sleepovers? When the other kids go home!

Indian princess-
I think i missed what he said about Beth. Can you fill me in, or anyone for that matter.

Wheres Jodi would be one of my questions.

I hope this is going to be a good episode that answers a lot of the haters questions. I noticed its an hour one instead of half. I cant wait. I actually dvr'ed the other 2 FAQ episodes that are airing today. I cant wait to pop some (organic of course) popcorn and watch the fireworks! LOL

marci said...

I don't have any specific questions I want answered, but I wouldn't mind hearing something we haven't heard before.

I imagine this episode was "in the can" when Jon gave the Utah interview. So, considering the questions he (seemingly easily) answered about Beth, et al, posed by that reporter, I'm wondering if it's something that hadn't already been addressed in this episode.

If so, it might be interesting to see if the answers might be tempered with Kate being right there. ;)

Anonymous said...

I think this episode will be different from the other two FAQ's because the viewers uploaded videos of themselves instead of just emailing the questions. Should be an interesting change.

I also hope we get a different set of questions. I'm sure if they are asked about the Kevin/Jodie issue they will continue to skirt around it like they tend to do with the grandparents question. I predict something like this, "We still love them. They just didn't like the publicity from the show etc. etc. now that we have moved out of their neighborhood we don't see them as much etc. etc. but yes we still love them and our kids love them. They're still Uncle Kevin and Aunt Jodie."

I never took the time to upload a video question, but one I have always pondered is if when she found out she was carrying sextuplets, did Kate ever contact other families with sextuplets for support? There were several already living in the US and I personally would have found it comforting to get some advice from people acutally living in these rare circumstances. On the flip side of that did any of the families with sextuplets born after the Gosselin's contact Kate and ask for advice/support?

Like I said, I never actually uploaded this question but maybe someone else thinks like I do. Can't wait to read the snark about the episode tomorrow....

"God Kate's hair looks horrendously horrendous!"

"Jon barely said two words all episode! Kate really emasculates him!"

"Did anyone look closely at the paint on the walls behind them? I think its a shade lighter than what it used to be! They MUST be in the new house!!"

Hehe :)

Cincymom, that's the scary part. I can't imagine what plots that eight could conspire and how to stay on top of that everyday.

Marci, that's interesting. I will also be watching for that. I always wish we got to hear more from Jon on the couch.

I'm still hoping for a peek at the craft services table and where they set it up.

Jamie: Jon said he was friends with Beth and Bob but they didn't want to be on the show anymore. Bob texted Jon while he was in Utah. The whole video interview in on Babymama's site. I think it was talked about in interview 3.

I am pretty sure what Indianprincess was referring to was that in the interview Jon said Bob (Beth's husband) was texting him when he (Jon) was on the slopes. Assuming that's true (and I have no reason to think Jon would outright lie), it indicates that relations between Beth and the Gosselins may be just fine and the reason we haven't seen her may have more to do with her pursuing her own goals and wanting out of the filming process.

Considering one of mini-hate sites is buzzing this morning with talk of a house purchase and sale the Carlsons recently made (none of our business even if it is public information), I don't blame them one bit for wanting out of the limelight.

*************************

Nina, nice job with all the Inauguration widgets and pictures. I really like the look!

Anonymous said...

I agree with you Anya, the Carsons' business is none of our business, just like J&K's business is none of ours.

Morgan--thanks for the laugh! So true!

Ann said...

Oh, CincyMom! You have my sympathy! You're a good mommy. My daughter had a sleepover at Christmas and I watched the clock until I was off-duty. It's just sooooo much fun for the kids, though, and I secretly love to hear the noise and giggling.

Ann said...

Will they mention the dogs?

marci said...

Saint,

Good question about the dogs.

I'm also wondering if anything new-house related, i.e., anything that will be covered in the next two episodes about the move, will be discussed in this FAQ episode.

Just thinking they might save all that info to hype up the move.

We'll see, I guess.

OK, there are a few others avatars that I appreciate as well. Marci, I may have to steal yours in the future. Nina, add a big hehe from me, too. And Anya, I think I am going to look for a MLK, Jr. avatar to copmlement your first black president avatar.

Jamie said...

Anyone know what kind of dogs yet? I just watch one of the old FAQ's and they were talking about it. Jon want a big dog and Kate wants a small fluffy one that dont shead. Im betting Kate one that. haha.

Nina Bell said...

There was a puppy running with them two weeks ago in a commercial. It almost looked like a lab. Not sure though.

Samantha@IW said...

Marci-

I do love you avatar :) It often reflects my own sentiments exactly. . .

Mom said...

My guess is a golden retriever, labrador or lab/poodle mix (the puppy looked to have wavy-ish fur)!

I keep thinking about all the fun things about puppies - romping, stomping, and "puppy breath," of course. But, then I think of all the work - ugh. I love my dogs, but I don't think I could handle a puppy again now that I have one toddler.

I'd like to see J&K answer some things about what we don't see on the show. Maybe some funny run-ins with fans, some of the tups artwork from preschool, a musical performance by the twins - just some plain 'ol silly day-to-day stuff.

Anonymous said...

Saint--definitely love the morning whispering when they all wake up and don't know what they're allowed to do yet. Four little girls all whispering is too cute! And totally makes it worth it. We didn't do too bad. They got up at 7:30 a.m..

Wellllllll....the kids were all picked up about 3 hours ago and mine were nasty (ugly anyone?). No saying goodbye to guests, no thanking for presents, no walking to the door. When the rides came, they just disappeared to the family room TV without a second glance.

And yes I did "make" them do it when it wasn't being done but lordy, there's something to be said for them doing it without being prompted.

I do always plan for the meltdown aftermath of a sleepover. We always have them (and they know ahead of time) that they have to "rest" in rooms for 1 hour. Play quietly, whatever, but just some quiet time.

But I will say (and seriously) I need to plan some kind of regular manners course, ie. shaking hands hello while looking in the eye, greeting people, etc.

We just talked about how rude it can be how sometimes not saying anything is not polite.

Calgon!!!!!!!!!!!! or for those fans out there, while my kids are napping I will be shamefully watching my TV of Rock of Love from last night!

Interested in the show tonight if I can stay up for it. Didn't know it would be video questions...How do you know this stuff?

marci said...

Saint & Sam,

;)

Mom,

I'm with you on the puppy issue. We got our Jack Russell Terrorist....er, Terrier... at 8 weeks and he was just too small to use the crate for potty training. I tried it, but he couldn't hold it all night and I was getting up at all hours of the night to let him pee....just like an infant!

We decided the old paper training would have to do until he could make it through the night.

I'm curious to see if the Gosselins got two PUPPIES or two older dogs, cause I can just see Kate with a new house, her usually stresses and a puppy puddle or pile to contend with....yikes. It drove me nuts, so I can just imagine...

Samantha@IW said...

CINCYMOM-

YES- what is up with the sleepover meltdowns??? I remember being that way as a child too and my daughter is no exception either. I suppose its the whole "the fun is over" let down lol.

Jenn said...

I am so glad to know that mine isn't the only one who has the post-sleepover meltdowns! Sometimes I think she's gotten too big for her britches after getting to have a friend stay over. I do know what you mean about the manners though ~ we are constantly reminding the kids to use their pleases and thank yous. I noticed the other night that they finally have gotten into the habbit of saying please to the waitress when we are out to eat.

Jenn said...

Saint~ Thanks!

Guineveres is pretty good too.

I'm also interested in hearing what activities the kids are involved in . . . .

I'm betting soccer for Cara & Mady.

I also wonder if they are still taking violin or piano?

merryway said...

But I will say (and seriously) I need to plan some kind of regular manners course, ie. shaking hands hello while looking in the eye, greeting people, etc.

I got a good lib book and made mine do a report. That way they never had an excuse not to know.
I also had a “I'm the meanest mommy dance” that drove them crazy. :)

Marci, your avatar is hilarious! I love it.

Jack russell terrorist - that is hilarious! I have one friend who has two jacks and a new baby! Talk about challenging!

My guess is they got puppies and a trainer - who knows maybe Cesar Milan will show up on TLC!!! Ha ha. Even though I say I probably will not have a puppy again - I probably will. Alot probably depends on the breed and whether they (the dogs) were around children before. My oldest pooch is a "second hand dog" and I just love him to pieces. He is also the best with my little one.

Saint, Cincy, Samantha -
I don't know about the sleepovers. I think as I got older, they got worse as far as the "catty-ness" goes. Girls, well, they can be meanies! I think I witnessed more meltdowns and "I wanna go home!" more as I got older.

I'm actually dying to plan a "Big Girl" sleepover at a winery/spa/hotel nearby with my 5 closest friends (all from high school, two from gradeschool) to celebrate all of us turning the big "FOUR-OH" this year! A night away from home sounds so fun. I haven't had one of those in a loooooong time!

I hope the questions are more probing than other episodes. I also hope my dvr doesn't have too many conflicting things at 9pm eastern cuz 24 is on at the same time. I used to tape intervention too but I guess one has to get kicked out of the que. We'll see, both J&K and Intervention are re-run so whichever one gets the boot can be taped at another time.

Okay, we've got an answer to the music lessons. Cara no longer takes piano, but Mady still takes violin lessons.

Lizzy said...

I liked this episode-- its interesting to see more of the bloopers and behind the scenes info :).

Some things I really liked--

--Aaden saying "Nice to meet you!" to Norma (from the Hawaii show-- when they were all in their chef coats :)!)

- They put an end to the "lives are filmed 24/7" rumor-- it averages out to 3 days a week.

- I loved the kids telling one of the guys to take his shoes off!

- Jon and Kate were cute together :). I like when they make snarky comments and joke with each other.

- The behind the scenes info was really neat. I liked hearing who their 'favorite' kids are ;)

- As far as buying sale items and coupons--- I think someone mentioned in the past that this is how the rich *stay* rich. I agree with that-- since Kate grew up in a frugal family (from all accounts) it stands to reason that the old habit of saving dies hard. Can't hurt to save where you can!!

- misconceptions!! I really like the detail she went into about the background to the show (meetings, interviews, scheduling) which is really what they (J & K) get paid for more than the filming. I appreciate how she addressed the privacy issue-- there are lines to draw so they can still have some stability for their kids which is important to know.

Mom said...

I liked this Q & A better than the others. I was always curious about the story behind the sign on the table - very cool her grandfather made it.

Loudest screamer? Hilarious. I turned the volume down on that one!

Looks like the new house is right around the corner! Can't wait to see it - and the dogs!

Cute episode. I loved the crew questions. And I really liked seeing some of the old clips. Oh, my those kids are just precious.

Also, I know some people might be offended by this, but Kate mentioned the the kids will either have to get a job and buy their own cars or Jon and Kate will match it or something. The kids are getting their colleges paid for, Kate said it. So, I think paying for their own cars or a portion is quite reasonable and actually will be very normal for 8 teenagers.

Oh, and by the way, I'm currently paying back undergrad and grad school student loans. If my mother had wanted to put me on a reality show to pay for college, heck, yeah, I'd do it in a heartbeat ;)

I really enjoyed tonight's episode. If someone isn't satisfiied with their answers, the best thing that can be done is for that person not to watch.

Btw...did you catch the commercial about the new house? Did that look different from the one that we've seen around? This one looked like it is a ranch house?

merryway said...

This is one of my top fav now. I love seeing the crew and they showed a lot of my fav moments and more footage of the kids. I didn't think it was fluffy at all. I'm so pleased. They answered so many questions. The new house look amazing. I'm going to watch it again later on.

St., I just realized your avatar had two dif pics (I have small screen), I love that!

EveryoneLovesErin said...

Ok...Baaaaaa!

I was very impressed with this episode. I think this has been the most honest of the Q&A episodes. They answered real questions.

I think they were telling the truth for the most part and I have more respect for them after seeing this.

The answer to so many criticisms...of course none of the nay sayers will believe them but whatever.

Samantha@IW said...

I loved the part where they addressed the claim that they "don't work". I thought Kate gave an excellent answer. I also like that they addressed the fact that the children can choose not to be filmed- something that has been a hot button topic at times.

Anonymous said...

I'd love for them to answer why we don't see Beth any more.

And I predict that the answer will be . . .

We're still close. Beth is a full-time college student completing her bachelor degree.

Linda, I wish they would answer that question as well. IF they are doing the Q&A shows because they are popular with viewers, I would guess Where's Beth would be a top question asked.

When they did the St. Jude show with Nana Janet (I think that was the one she was on), it was natural for her to appear because she moved to the city they were visiting. When Kate talked about their "book tour" it would have been natural for Jon and Kate to acknowledge Beth's contribution even if she didn't want to appear on camera. Yet not a word was mentioned. I think both Beth and Kate are taking the high road for not mentioning what happened but I don't think they are close anymore.

However, this doesn't mean that Bob and Jon don't talk. It's been my experience that things that bother girls' friendship don't really seem affect men's friendships the same way.

J&K said that Cara's sports include soccer and skiing and that Mady's sports include "spa-ing" (ha ha) and what?

I really enjoyed tonight's episode. If someone isn't satisfiied with their answers, the best thing that can be done is for that person not to watch.

I'm not sure why someone should stop watching if they aren't satisified with their answers.
I don't believe everything Jon and Kate have to say. They have a vested interest in answering a certain way, and if I were in their shoes I'd answer questions the way they do. I don't know for sure, I could be wrong.
I liked the question about the music lessons and about the sports. I liked the introduction of some of the crew and a bit of behind the scenes. Since I didn't like the Q&A last time I was pleased that they had a fair amount of cute kid scenes. I love how interested their kids are in the people they meet. I hope that translates to kids at school and other events they attend.

Andie said...

I really liked that Kate discussed the entire job issue and the misconception that they don't work. That has to be the one thing that really bugs me about people regarding them. I guess I relate to that issue. As a writer I don't have a 9-5 schedule but I work a hell of a lot hard than many people with traditional jobs. I still have people who think I do "nothing" all day long. It irks me when people assume that the only jobs in the entire world are ones that you have to travel to and work from 9am-5pm or some other similiar schedule.

As for the Beth issue I'm not entirely sure what the deal is, but I would think if something went terribly wrong between Kate and Beth Jon and Bob would likely not be speaking either. Judging from the episodes we've seen with Beth and Bob in it I think it's a safe assumption that Bob never liked the idea of having cameras around and perhaps Beth's growing involvement and the involvement of his home made him uncomfortable.

Linda, I believe that they said that Mady's sports were spa-ing and clay class! You know, the internationally recognized sport of clay class. I can't wait to watch that one at the Olympics!

I wasn't able to watch this until midnight last night, so it was hard for me to stay awake. However, I liked this episode quite a bit. I did think it was interesting that it was obviously filmed over more than one day, because Jon would be wearing a hat, or not, and Kate's outfit changed as well. This again shows that editing is occurring and that things may not be all that they seem when we watch this show.

I thought they seemed genuine about their answers, and their children are just adorable.

Actually, I think it very possible that the filming was done in the new house.
How about the 3-car garage with the Cadillac inside? That was definitely filmed at the new house.
At least it might put an end to the speculation that the Gosselins are keeping the old house for filming ....

lulubae said...

Woah, I didn't even know there were people speculating that they were keeping the old house for filming! I would think they'd be happy to be out of there because of the space issue!

I really liked the episode. I think most of the questions were great and loved all of the footage they showed. The crew being a part of it was awesome too. I hope people can now see that they are not standing behind the cameras with whips telling the kids what to do!

As for the question of Beth, I also think maybe it just doesn't come up because most of the people that are no longer on the show made appearances in earlier seasons. The show has had a boom recently and maybe people just don't even know who they are. Another reason could be because people tune in to watch Jon, Kate and the "8". It's not the Jodi/Kevin/Beth/etc. show.

Anonymous said...

I think they did a good job answering questions. The questions were more difficult than usual.

Things I liked:

* Kate's explanation of the work they do off the camera
* Her obvious excitement about her books - it did not seem like the usual stiff promotion that she does
* Kids don't all get new cars. Seriously, can you imagine 6 new cars when the tups turn 16 or 18?
* The crew

I didn't like the explanation that kids don't have to be around for filming. That works for Mady and Cara, but not the younger kids. Plus, it bugs me they have to leave their home to avoid it.

I think the Beth/Kate issue can be one of two things. 1 - Beth and Kate did have a falling out and neither are not discussing it or 2- Beth/Bob got freaked by the recognition, pulled out of all filming and asked not be mentioned again in public hoping that the attention will be removed from them. Either rationale seems reasonable to me.

marci said...

I also enjoyed the things that everyone here has already brought up.

There was also the FIRST question about if the Gosselins thought the kids were being harmed by being filmed and if they thought the kids might resent them in the future.

Let me say, I was impressed this was the first question right out of the gate. This one first and the misconceptions one was last...probably the two most talked-about subjects in the Gosselin blog world.

Once again, I see in their answer about the kids being involved/affected by filming a certain...I don't know....determined resolve. Kind of, yes, we've heard this question before, here's the answer, and this is our choice, we're happy with it, this is how it is, the kids are fine....i.e., end of story.

I have to say, more than anything else there might be to like or admire about Kate and Jon (or not), I really find I'm liking their tenacity, their strength in dealing with how their world has turned upsidedown in the last year or so. I'm sure they've made missteps along the way, but I think they've found their bearings.

Also, liked how the camera/sound guy was talking about how "real" this reality show was...no retakes, no staging, not working with actors.

The new house episodes should be fun to watch.

Didn't notice the new shade of paint in the interview room, but then I don't like to leave noseprints on my television screen.

Whoever mentioned the Cadillac in one shot... I think that was taken at Beth and Bob's house in their garage. The episode when Kate and Beth went to Ikea, I think, and Jon and Bob had the kids...they were playing in large boxes at Bob's house and it looked like a garage.

Forgot to mention,

There was some very specific sponsorship mentioned during commercial breaks for J&K+8...Tums, Charmin and I forget the other one I saw.

More power to the Tinfoil Hatters is they're going to boycott Tums, but if they're boycotting Charmin as well...the phrase "full of crap" is going to take on a whole new meaning.

Well, we just finished watching this morning. My son, home from school sick, watched too.

My kids were laughing about the time-out question, because the questioner said, "How do you get them to go by themselves and stay there?"
My daughter has QUITE the problem with that--the staying part. We FINALLY had success by telling her each time she ran away was 1 day without TV. It took about 6 months for us to figure out what would work for her! Aah.

I, too, liked the work question and answer. I liked the questions about good/bad parts of parenting each kid.

I do like that kids can choose not to be filmed, but on the other hand, not so thrilled that it is put upon the child to leave the home and go to a friend's house to get away.

And I do hope they have given the piano to a child who would have LOVED the opportunity to have a piano for music. They might be able to use it later for the other kids, but it would be a shame to hold something so nice for years before it would be used. And now that they could buy one if they need to later......

Can someone clarify something for me:

I thought that they said that they can go to a friend's house if they don't want to be filmed.

Did others hear them say that they have to?

=============

It is noteworthy that K mentions that the kids have friends. I recall that certain bloggers have suggested that the kids are not permitted to have friends.

=============

Did anyone hear what activities Mady does?

marci said...

Linda,

I didn't hear the "friend's house" explanation as meaning the kids HAD to make other arrangements if they wanted to opt out of filming.

I'm pretty sure Kate said if they want to go to a friend's house INSTEAD of filming, they can. Basically, IMO, meaning, if they have something else they would rather do or already have plans, they aren't required to stay with the rest of the family and film. I would imagine this mostly pertains to Mady and Cara, but who knows?

And Mady's activities were still violin and clay class. The question was about sports. Cara plays soccer, but when Mady's activities came up they weren't sports related.

I forgot to add that I loved the little dance Aaden (or Collin) did after they got in trouble from taking the girls drawer handle off - LOL - that was funny! It's right up there with Joel's "boys have wieners" line! Those kids are so stinkin' cute!

Oh, and the "chewies" were gross! Ha ha. The way J imitated Leah (?) with them was also really funny.

My little one loves his satin-edged blankies! He goes through the occasional "Linus" days where he wants to carry them (all 4) around the house! Thank goodness he's not just attached to one!

I liked this episode and the questions that were answered. I liked how some of the crew answered some of the questions. The new house doesn't look anything like the pictures spewed over the internet. I don't know and I guess I'll have to wait and see next week.

Liked this episode. Especially liked the crew and there preceptions. Guess we don't film 24 hours a day and Kate answered the question of a job rather well.

Well basically Im wondering if this is another Gosselin hating site? Because while I know the Gosselin's make mistakes I DON"T hate them. I used to be a frequent visitor of Gosselins Without Pity but lately its just gotten ridiculous. They actually deleted all my comments that questioned their hating mentality! Anyways I know you guys don't want any board-on-board talking or anything like that, so I'll stop there!

I just want to say this episode was pretty good, I do wish they would have answered some of the more relevant questions but I do understand that they need privacy. I am really looking forward to the new house!! It looks so nice.

Loved it when Joel said he didn't want to be filmed. He is a cutie, all the kids are.

We feel we are adult enough to discuss both sides.

I love reading gwop when I need a good laugh. Does anyone else find it humorous when they say things like "They make my blood boil!, After watching that my blood pressure is sky high!, Ok everyone start writing emails to Kmart! I can go on and on but.....My favorite of the day was someone mentioned the shade of green in the interview last night. I. Almost. Died.

Great job on getting this show off the air gwop. Your efforts are...well useless. Its been at least a year right?

Yes Jamie, I find it humorous too. I know the cure for the constant stomach stomach pains they get from watching...its called NOT WATCHING. Who the hell watches a show over and over that she insist makes them physically ill?

I like the comments from the GWoPer's who say they just had to watch. Especially when they say that they are playing back their dvr's to catch every twitch or muscle movements. Or how about the psuedo- psychologists who analyze every movement on the couch and pronounce that the marriage is over. That site just keeps getting wierder and wierder.

Thanks! I am really starting to like it here! lol, I know its crazy they all claim to not watch and only read the really lame recaps but then they all seem to know things that you would have to watch to know! Their efforts are useless because they claim things that aren't real! I kept saying that if they don't like it and really want it off the air they need to stop watching and stop blogging about it but (and Im sure you can guess this!) my comments were never allowed through.

Paula, Joel saying he did not want to be filmed was adorable!! I can't get over how cute Colin was with his little "Haha, Mommy caught me" dance, as well as Aaden being cute no matter what he does. Those boys are going to be heartbreakers!!

I think the new house will be interesting-- I know there has been so much speculation and so many rumors, it will be good to finally put them to rest and get facts straight on where they are living. I am really glad the kids have a say in whether they want to be filmed or not-- Mady and Cara are old enough to need that kind of privacy and say.

As far as other sites go, while I completely understand the feelings being expressed, I think its better to just talk about the things we enjoy about this show here. Anya and I are now on as moderators (yay!) and are happy to answer any more sensitive questions via email. We had some comments that we did not put through which were not really appropriate for posting, so I wanted to make sure everyone knew they are welcome to email.

No new rules that I know of... just trying to make sure everyone is on the same page :).

I didn't like the explanation that kids don't have to be around for filming. That works for Mady and Cara, but not the younger kids. Plus, it bugs me they have to leave their home to avoid it.

I really liked this episode. Not all the questions were fluff. Colin's little dance made me laugh. I'm glad they don't make the kids film when they don't feel like it. That would explain why we haven't been seeing as much of the twins in recent episodes.

So, they have college funds. Glad that's been addressed.

I am very curious to see if the new house is the same as what some others have claimed.

I felt like at some points of the Q&A their answers were firm and basically said that the kids are fine and people need to give it up.

I meant that they answered questions that we often bring up here. They appeared to me to be telling the truth. So, why would anyone question or pick apart what they said?

Is it me, or is GWoP getting stranger and more desperate every day. Dare I say that the "advocates" seem to be running out of steam? I think the novelty is wearing off. There's only so much negativity you can take before you tune out, and that's true of anything, even things you agree with. The jokes and snark get stale when they're repeated ad nauseum, and when you just try so desperately to find something new to bitch about, it begins to show.

I liked this too. When Kate was asked what the misconceptions were about them and she said "do you have an hour", I said "go Kate." Honestly, I think they could have spent an hour on all the bs that is out there. But, why bother?

Some of the answers were kind of blah to me. "What kind of music do you like?" "We like all kinds." That type of stuff. I also think they are a bit more guarded in their comments about the kids these days and I can understand why. It is probably for the best, although I do enjoy hearing J&K's insights about the kids various personalities.

I loved the parts with the crew. I think they could have done more of that and given J&K a rest.

It's always fun to see little parts of film you haven't seen before. There were a couple of scenes with Alexis that I don't think (?) aired before. In one she says, "It's Alexis!" In another, she attempts a raspberry with her tongue. Both were extremely cute.

Wouldn't it have been funny and a big in your face to Gwop if Kate showed up as a spokesperson for Nutri-System or Jenny Craig or some diet program? She looks fantastic and has done it by eating salads and exercising on the treadmill, but wouldn't that be a hoot to see them get in a tizzy if her answer was, "well, I started Jenny Craig". Then her ad pops up in the latest issues of magazines.

So I was reading on Cafemom and someone said that Kate broke her leg this past week sometime. I dont know if there is any truth to that but I thought I would throw it out there.

Anything she does is going to be twisted into something bad. You can find negativity in anything and SOME people thrive on it. At first I didn't think the naysayers were jealous. Now I'm not so sure there isn't a twinge of jealousy in their nasty words.

I agree that they're running out of steam. I think some of the lighter crazy has been strained away with the heavy haters staying on. I'm glad this blog likes to branch out and do the side item conversations unrelated to J&K. It keeps things fun with a little bit of variety.

Thought I'd throw this out there since I've seen this brought up before on GWOP when Jon took the boys golfing. They're horrible parents for not knowing what hand their children use. It's being rehashed a little lighter this time, but kids are still choosing hands at the tups age.

BY SUSAN M. GREEN, OT/L, PEDIATRIC OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
Excerpt from article:
When will I know if my child is right or left handed? Development of hand dominance takes time and is related to the development of the central nervous system. Hand dominance starts to develop between two to three years of age. It is typically completed by the age of six although in some children it can be as late as eight or nine years of age. If a definite hand dominance is present before the age of two and it is observed that the child uses one hand to a much greater degree than the other; it may be a sign of a neurological problem and a health professional should be consulted. This is evident if the child uses one hand for all tasks and the other hand helps very little.

I am confused about something that is a new topic on GWOP. It seems like they were upset that Kate didn't work. Now they're upset because someone posted a list of Kate's speaking engagements, which shows that she does work. What's the issue here? If they're upset because Kate isn't home with the kids, why are they assuming that Jon isn't? I take issue with that old-fashioned "gender role" thinking. I can't say I'm a fan of Kate Gosselin, but I will say that I feel bad for her because it seems like she's damned if she does and she's damned if she doesn't.

Regarding her "salad and treadmill" plan, I think she's always looked normal, which I like because she's like a lot of the rest of us. Poor thing can't even be healthy without getting slack on GWOP. There is nothing she can do that they would ever "approve" of, as if it's their place to approve or disapprove of her life.

So you don't believe their answers? You think they're lying? What doesn't ring true? I don't get why people have to question their answers. Here's my point rain88, if people don't like what they had to say, instead of bitching about it here and trying to prove them wrong...just turn the dial.

Anya@IW said...

Rain88, I am honestly interested to hear what didn't ring true for you. I know you are not alone in that feeling.

Overall, I agree with Theresa. I don't feel the Gosselins intentionally "lied" about anything. That doesn't mean that some of their responses did not put a positive spin (I use this word cautiously) on things.

An example I would use would be the effect of filming on the children. I *do* believe the Gosselins have carefully considered the consequences of filming on the children. I would think there have probably been days they might have wondered if it was the "right" decision. In the end, however, they have concluded it is the best decision for their family and the children will not be harmed and, in fact, will have experiences they would not have had the opportunity for, due to the show.

So "the kids will be fine" becomes the final politically correct answer that we see broadcast. I think they are entitled to some privacy as to how they come to their decisions and the possible angst and second guessing behind their decisions, but perhaps their answers come out too pat for some folks. I can understand this perspective, but this is where I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt that others seem unwilling to extend.

I liked the behind the scenes part, other than that, blah.

I am glad the crew seems to genuinely like the kids.

Here's my point rain88, if people don't like what they had to say, instead of bitching about it here and trying to prove them wrong...just turn the dial.

I wasn’t bitching; I was giving you my opinion. I don’t hate the show, and I don’t get worked up about the show. Since the “I love this show” is represented very well on here, I tend to post when an opinion that I have hasn’t been represented. Being told to “turn the dial” gets annoying after a while.

What I enjoy is the interaction of the kids. I have always been interested in child development. I don’t write sponsors or make negative remarks about the kids, or comment on Kate’s hair or Jon being a wimp. I don’t particularly like Jon or Kate but I don’t hate them or feel jealous of them. There are things I like about them. I like Kate’s laugh and I love that Jon can get down to his kids’ level when he plays with them. I enjoy the show for the most part and will continue watching it until I don’t.

Anya, one example is in the Utah interview and Jon’s explanation about Kate’s parents. To me it doesn’t ring true but, as I also said previously, I could be wrong. But I also agree with you that they have a right to keep some things private and that certainly could be one of those issues. I think he had every right to say to that interviewer “We will not discuss Kate’s parents”. I think that with PR people involved and a lot of money at stake they will be cautious about what they say. That’s why I don’t really like the Q&A episodes all that much; they are going to chose questions to answer that will maintain their image.

Anonymous said...

Rain88-

I never singled YOU out as bitching. And, I never told YOU specifically to turn the dial. I did allude to those posters who constantly have to try to prove J&K wrong that if they didn't like what they heard, which were legitimate and true answers to questions we have talked here about, then they should turn the dial as opposed to bitch ad nauseaum. Yes, it gets old seeing people nitpick on J&K.

For anyone who was wondering, the house mentioned on several other sites with links to slideshows *is* the house they bought. So at least that question or speculation can be put to rest.

Speaking for myself, I have definitely used variations of "just stop watching!" before. I do understand that if you're interested in the show, you might get annoyed at being told that. Certainly, I think it's okay to have and express a negative opinion about the Gosselins or the show.

I do think that people who do nothing but complain should stop watching the show (I'm not addressing this to anyone in particular). If it makes you angry, if you can't find anything positive in it - then yeah, I think you should stop watching. That's JMO, of course. I have had my fill of people who act like they are watching so they can act as child advocates (puh-leeze!) or who watch just so they can engage in a negativity-fest. Again, just speaking for myself, the negativity gets old after a while. It doesn't have to be all sunshine and roses and Gosselin rah-rahs, but I tend to distrust the POV of anyone who seems too emphatic one way or the other.

happymama said...

This is just my opinion, but I think that Jon and Kate, are doing the best that they can.

I'm sure that they get plenty of questions, that are not our business. They need privacy, in their lives, just like we all do.

When I watch the show, I really focus on the kids. They are funny, and they make me laugh.

4 months is not a year. TLC's October statement to CNN had this to say:

"Because of the show, the kids and the family have economic security and the luxury of a mom who can stay at home and raise them."

This right in the midst of the book tour that had Kate on the road most days. And in this recent Q&A episode Kate herself states she works 40+ hours per week.

So that's where the "liar liar pants on fire" sentiment is coming from. Which I can totally understand. Their circumstances didn't just change between October and whenever the episode was filmed. They've been working these hours for quite some time. The only difference is that she just finally admitted it after dancing around the subject for months.

That's my beef with Jon & Kate. Just admit things or shut them down completely with a standard answer. They tend to shoot themselves in the foot more times than not.

As for the debate regarding other blogs... the way I see it, if you want to comment on what's being posted, go to that blog and join the discussion. It's seriously annoying to see all the "did you see what was posted.." and "I bet I can guess what they'll say".

If any person criticizes Kate for working this much than do they raise an issue with all working moms? The TLC statement says the luxury of a mom who CAN stay at home and raise them. I have no idea about anyone else, but having the option is more than a lot of parents have especially with working 40 hours a week. Because of the show and the work along with the show, Kate *CAN* stay home that much when her schedule allows. It does not say will, must, or has the desire to.

Portia said...

IMO alot of the work Kate does is from her home. When she is away Jon is home and visa versa. Maybe the word should be stay at home parent, whatever... the kids have one parent at home. NinaBell I agree about the other site. The only why your comments get posted is if you agree with their sentiments or they need to bash someone because they ran out of steam.

Unbeknownst to 2exhausted2name, I think that she is highlighting one of the reasons why K is such a lightning rod for controversy -- and it isn't the "liar liar pants on fire matter."

It is the issue of how people feel about working mothers, division of duties between parents, etc.
Some of the most heated arguments between women that I've witnessed have been about those very issues.

Guinevere said...

Well, if a lot of that work is done from home, she is still home with her kids, correct?

My understanding is that the business trips, etc. are probably a sporadic part of the Gosselins' schedules.

The fact remains that for some people, J&K can do nothing right. If they don't work "outside the home" they are exploiting the kids and lazy; if they do they are ignoring the kids and liars.

Personally, I find it seriously annoying when the only time people post on a blog is to attempt to point out other people,s mistakes or to tell them what they should be or should not be commenting on.
