Jon Responds

Jon released a statement through his rep. To view the full story go to Radar Online.

"It is certainly hurtful for people to spread rumors and lies about us. It certainly makes me reluctant to live my life like the average person would. This has made it very clear that the simplest innocent gesture -- such as taking a picture with a fan, can be taken out of context.

"As you can see on the show, I am not perfect, but I am a part of a loving family and couple."

I'm so glad that Jon has spoken out about this. The rumormongers have certainly gotten out of control in the past week and I'm glad that we can stop the speculation on this one!
Good move, Jon!

Part of me thinks that the Gosselins should not dignify the BS thrown around about them with a response... but considering the fact that anonymous posters on random message boards are talking about how they slept with Jon or their friend slept with Jon I am glad they did say something.

Its one thing to comment about what we see on the show-- it is another entirely to talk about things that we have no business knowing. Just like when commenting on blogs-- its one thing to criticize or disagree with something a person says, or try to clear up something that was misunderstood. It is another entirely to poke fun of or criticize that persons real life, family, or job. I'm really disappointed in how some people feel it is their right or their duty to say things in a public forum that are clearly intended to do nothing but tear another person down.

I don't follow much so I don't know what this is about at all. Can anyone fill me in? Or does it not matter?

I just think it's disgraceful that there are people out there that don't even know the Gosselins but hate them so much that they purposefully spread this crap. It's malevolent. What right do they have to interfere with other peoples' lives in such a way? It really makes me sick.

If you click on the word "statement" that is highlighted, it will give you a brief description of why he released a statement.

Anya said...

I too am glad to see them address this. I think the Gosselins' have done the right thing in the past by not responding to every allegation. For example, I understood their silence when Julie was speaking out. There was obviously a rift in the family and to refute each of her claims point-by-point would likely have made a bad situation worse and bring publicity to a private matter.

This was clearly a different situation.

For some reason, when thinking about the blogs and websites that ran with the original story and pictures, the following exchange between Senator Joseph McCarthy and Joseph Welch comes to mind:

Mr. Welch: "Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness....You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"

This isn't about liking or disliking J&K or approving or disapproving of the choices they have made - it is about behaving like a decent human being.

The folks who are so convinced that they are right and only they know "the truth" are willing to peddle the lowest form of garbage in their never-ending witchhunt. Their need (compulsion?) to promote every sick rumor that the internet creates speaks volumes about their own characters.

merryway said...

I'm glad they addressed, I'm surprised they did. I think it's a good way to show how silly some of the rumors are.

I like it when Jon speaks.

CincyMom said...

Thanks Nina, missed that the first time around.

This whole thing seems like a non-issue, but I guess it's hurtful when you're the one in the non-issue.

BTW, never heard of Radar online before the Nadya Suleman thing. Am I just totally removed from the world?

I don't think I would have addressed this particular rumor at all. I think they should think it is beneath them. (There I go thinking for them). Was this in the article? I can't remember reading that.
I really admired that they didn't answer to anyone, that they just went on with their lives, like they were above it all. I feel like they are getting sucked into the fray now. Probably their PR made them put out some kind of statement, but I feel that there is always going to be hate out there, and there are always going to be rumors. Something feels strange to me about this. It's as if whoever is handling them or the show is not letting Jon & Kate be Jon & Kate. I'm not a big fan of the show and I won't pretend to know these people at all, but somehow this doesn't feel like Kate to me. Tons of things have been written about them, their children have been attacked in horrible ways and they've never spoken out in defense of anything in this way, and now a few pictures with fans is turned into an ugly rumor, and now is the time to speak out? I don't think they need to defend their marriage, and I would have disagreed so vehemently with whoever gave me that advice.
I see by all the other responses that I'm in the minority, but something tells me that this is just going to add fuel to the fire. We'll see.

I see that my one daughter that stopped watching the show didn't let that stop her from getting in on this latest fight on the internet. I hope this goes away soon.

rain88 said...

I agree with you, Eileen. Before they started their reality show I'm sure someone let them know what kind of rumours they would have to put up with. You only have to hear what any celebrity has to say on the subject to realize it happens to everyone in the public eye. I like Kate's attitude that she doesn't listen to any of the negativity. Why people get off on starting those kinds of statements puzzles me but it happens to all celebrities.

Guin, some of those rumours were likely not even started by someone that hates them, some people just love to stir it up, they don't care who it is they are attacking.

Nina Bell said...

Rain88

I agree. There are people that probably have no connection or affiliation with any particular blog or site but love to start these rumors and sit back and watch the different blogs go at it. Some of these people probably do not even watch the show but have read about the controversy somewhere.

I also like the attitude of not listening to the negativity and follow that myself.

I agree Eileen, perhaps this is their new management team having them squelching the rumors. I liked that Jon and Kate ignored the negative stuff and hate blogs, too. If I were them, that seems the only logical thing to do if you are busy with 8...just ignore the hate. It's counterproductive. But, as Liza Beth pointed out about all the anonymous posters bragging how they slept with Jon, I think I'd want to settle the score on that one, too. Marriage is sacred and these kind of rumors can really hurt a person. They hurtfully went into a territory that they had no right to. And as Liza Beth points out about the hateful people...their duty to say things in a public forum that are clearly intended to do nothing but tear another person down....I believe that even Kate has her limits. I think she's really been very strong to put up with all the crap that's been written about her and her family. Everyone has their breaking point or hurt moments.

Although RadarOnline certainly became popular with the Nadya Suleman story when it broke, it's always been there. It's the more "quiet TMZ.com".

Susie Q said...

Come on...Do you honestly think Jon would admit to marital problems or cheating when they still have a show to do/produce?? They still have one more season they gotta pump out. I am sure cheating on Kate is the furthest thing on his mind when she goes to NY and he is left at home w/ 8 kids knowing that if they divorce now... that's 8 child support payments he CAN'T make.

sheltie lover said...

My take on why Jon decided to address this one particular rumor is that since a portion of their income comes from speaking in churches, there should be no suggestion of him being an adulterer.

Eileen said...

Maybe some of their sponsors are worried about their image. When you are a spokesperson for products I think you end up losing a little of yourself, if the sponsor doesn't like what it sees they demand you change things.
The whole statement Jon put out just didn't sound right to me.
And I guess I'm judging them by my standards, if someone said those things about my husband and myself, I think Ray and I would just look at each other and burst out laughing. But, then again, we don't have small children anymore who could be affected by this, and we aren't spokespersons for anyone but ourselves.
Everyone has to do what they think is right for themselves, it just seemed so out of the norm for them to speak out on a rumor. Not that I actual know what is normal for them, I'm just going mostly by what I've read and how they've acted in the past.
And I also agree that there are lots of people out there who just throw out the most outrageous tales just to get a reaction from the fans, and the same goes the opposite way, some people just enjoy the fight.
I don't go to a lot of sites but of the few that I have read this one doesn't seem to have the offensive comments that are just thrown out there for shock value. Is that due to the monitoring or is it that this site just doesn't attract that element?

marci said...

Well, the people who started this rumor and those that were only too happy to spread it finally got what they wanted....the public relations equivalent of swatting a fly.

I'm SURE your lives are much richer for having participated in this desperate plea for attention.

The phrase "Get a life" could not be more appropriate than in this situation.

SamanthaNC said...

Thank God he finally said something- how anyone could make up a ridiculous story bc the man took a picture with a fan is absurd. Can you imagine if he had refused the picture and that story got around? "Jon and Kate are too good for the fans, they don't appreciate them, blah, blah, blah."

I know if I were going to have an affair or did something innappropriate in a bar I would DEFINITLEY take photos to have hard evidence against myself, especially if I were in the public eye and everyone knew my business.

Give me a break. I'm glad they addressed this- though I'm sure it won't be good enough for some.

SamanthaNC said...

To Susie Q

You honestly think that a picture of Jon with a fan and an internet rumor is enough to equate adultery?

I sincerely hope you are one of those people who shirk jury duty bc you cant be bothered with contributing to society.

Rather than worry about adults like Jon and Kate, I wonder how strong the kids will be as they grow up in front of the world and the world comments, judges, etc? Will they make it to adulthood or through adulthood without hitting their breaking point?

Theresa said...

I'm not worried per se JB. I can see how an incidenct (who knew what caused Jon to acknowledge the picture) can even get on the nerves of strongest of willed people. Perhaps when I wrote "breaking point" maybe that was too extreme. I should said time they wanted to "cut through the bullshit". That's what it really is.

I would think perhaps Jon and Kate do a lot to protect their kids from the internet using many of the gadgets that allow blocking, monitoring, etc. After all, and I know I've said it before here, if you google their last name,up comes the #1 hate blog and they see all the vicious, nasty rumors.

I would hope the kids never get to a breaking point. My opinion...I think the kids are strong little kids, will grow up with and have a strong sense of self-esteem that they too would let these things run down their shoulders and know that rumors are from jealous people. Attribute that sense of strong skin to their mom (and dad). They have a tight family unit because they are being raised with their faith in everday life. When a family follows a path, they are focused in the right direction. It may sound Pollyanna, but I know so many families, where such a tight bond exists because of their faith.

themrs said...

here's what it boils down to: because they are popular christian speakers, he HAD to address it. do i think he was out having an affair? of course not. do i think that it was smart to be bar hopping without his wife? nope. if your target audience is evangelical christians, that behavior is a big NO no. i'd rather have seen him own it.
if you are ok with drinking, then say that. if you weren't drinking (but just hanging out at the bar?) then say that.

Theresa said...

Perhaps you are right themrs. Makes a lot of sense to me what you say. And, I agree, I don't think he was having an affair either.

Eileen said...

I agree themrs.
And as far as the kids go, in a perfect world there would be no negative comments, but Jon & Kate have to deal with the real world which is very hateful at times.

I almost feel as if TLC should be doing two different shows on this family, it's obvious that a lot of people tune in just for the dynamics of the relationship of Jon & Kate and not for the 'family dynamics'. Maybe all the yelling at Jon should be saved for a separate show. I guess the Jon & Kate Plus 8 show would be very scripted then, but maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing, except that the fans would be so on to it.
I don't know what the answer is, but this hate is not going to go away.

Oy.

Liza Beth said...

fanny, I saw that article as well. I have to say that if Star Magazine is the best source for Jon Gosselin gossip then that says more about the posters of the info than it does about Jon. Whats next-- the Weekly World News?

Beyond that, I still feel like it is none of our business what they do in their personal time. All this talk about child advocacy and doing what is best for the kids is completely decimated by posting articles like that and proclaiming Jon to be an adulterer, philanderer, and alcoholic. Random sources whose names are not listed with no proof given are nothing better than message board comments. Like I said before, it is one thing to comment or have articles about what we see on the show and another entirely to talk about things we have no business being a part of. Jon and Kate welcomed us into their homes and part of their lives but that does not give anyone the right to spread nasty rumors and tear others down.

Liza Beth said...

Stephanie, I am hesitant to state its the Gospel Truth also... like I said before, my main issue with all of this is how people are reporting things and spreading rumors on message boards and blogs which have no real purpose except getting the poster some attention and hopefully turning more people away from Jon and Kate plus 8.

Whether the statement was really from Jon or not, I feel like there are some who made a conscious choice to say things which are either untrue or unverifiable. As usual for me, I would rather err on the side of giving someone like Jon the benefit of the doubt (mostly because of the extreme hatred that is out there for his family which leads some to do extremely hateful and malicious things). From where I stand, his life is far more open and visible to me (thus more 'trustworthy' if you can call it that, since he is not someone I know in real life) than any of the unnamed girls who apparently made out with him at some bar this one time, or whose friends went home with him.

Do you all really consider the Star a reliable news media? Come on. How many celebs have won lawsuits against these tabloids and have won? MANY! I would've had a hissy fit and put out a stronger retort than his rep did. Rumors are mean and dangerous. It reminds me of one celeb who's daughter saw a story that her parents were getting divorced and was hysterical in the supermarket. That type of rag is just plain mean.

--------------------------------

No, Star is not reputable at all ( and neither is Radar ). Back in 1995, Star Magazine did a story on my brother who looked EXACTLY like Ron Goldman ( killed by OJ Simpson ). It was a full 2 page story about how my brother is identical to Ron and half of the story was not true at all. It was all made up.

marci said...

I'm not sure how one would go about verifying if a "statement through a rep" is legit or not, except to call the PR company, which I, for one have no intention of doing. Personally, I could care less.

Yes, I think the Star is a rag. Have only been exposed to Radar since the Octomom story came out, but am getting a distinctly "raggish" vibe there too.

Basically, I'm not about proving or disproving "the truth" in this case. There are plenty of people with lots of time on their hands who are welcome to knock themselves out with the effort. But I feel, like most Gosselin rumors (or rumors, period), the truth is not likely to be on the internet or in the pages of a tabloid.

Eileen said...

I always thought Star Magazine was more of a joke, alien babies and those sorts of stories. I could be wrong, I don't think I've ever really read an article from that magazine, just saw headlines while waiting on the line in the supermarket.
I hate that Jon Gosselin made any statement at all. In my opinion it looks like damage control and just gives everyone more to gossip about.
No matter, I haven't lived a perfect life and he doesn't have to answer to me.

merryway said...

Oh come on Liza beth, it's none of our business, but it's a little fun to speculate. Actually, that might be a fun thread. Celebrity marriages/splits you are/were interested in. I'm trying to think and the whole Aniston/Pitt never interested me neither did Affleck and Jlo, but I got caught up in the whole Brittany meltdown custody scenario. I had never been interested in her before and haven't since. I have more of an interest in the classic hollywood stories like Lucy and Desi, I find it so hard to believe that they finished their show while they were divorcing. Sonny and Cher, Elvis and Priscilla, I was interested in those and all the preachy ones like Swaggart and the Bakers.
It's sad, but I think the Gosselins are getting some of the downside of being a celebrity. Some of these types of articles are bound to happen just because of the position they are in. It's just a normal thing that happens to celebrity couples.
I don't believe anything until I see some video clips or much harder hitting pictures. I find it hard to believe that with all the college kids around no one grabbed the phone and took any images. If not for the fun of it, then for possible $s. I think it's just another overblown rumor about a celebrity relationship. Especially if it's in the Star.

Baby Mama said...

When the Star article was originally posted on the site it was long and had some crazy stories, then after a few hours half of the article was removed! Are they crazy enough to post something without even fact checking for truth? I'm sorry, I would never believe a thing that is in that rag, I'm interested in seeing proof. Which for the record, there is NONE!

MoreCowbell said...

Star Magazine is a joke. It's published by the same people who publish the National Enquirer, and probably get their dirt the same way the Enquirer does, by reading hate blogs like GWoP.

This is slime of the highest order. It's not enough to want the show off the air, but to start rumors and screw with someone's personal life, too? Wow. Plotting to wreck the marriage so that the Gosselin children have to go through a divorce is really "advocating" for their best interests, isn't it?

But, sadly, it's not the first time the "advocates" have tried to start rumors about Jon's faithfulness. There was the speculation about him and his personal trainer....what did you guys call her? The "exercise bunny?" Even though she looked older than Jon and was FAR from a "bunny." But, who cares, as long as there are rumors to make up! Maybe he slept with her on the weight bench and used the boy 'tups as look-outs. Those smoothies she made the boys must have been a "thank you" to Daddy for services rendered, right? Then there was the speculation that he was sleeping with the Figure 8 producer, the proof being the "looks" he was giving her while doing the couch interviews. Riiiight. I must have missed the "come hither" eye contact y'all swear he gave as the cameras rolled and his wife was sitting next to him.

Jessica said...

Assuming the rumors are false, I hope those spreading them are aware of defamation laws. This is absolutely ridiculous. I realize those who choose celebrity open themselves up to things like this, but these people know that there are eight children involved here. No decency.

merryway said...

It's all based on a couple of photos that popped up, GWOP and some would love to see their marriage disintegrate. Kate hasn't canceled any appearances after Jon was at PSU. I'm sure that would happen, especially in the first initial phases of a split. I don't think they're sophisticated /detached enough to continue the series if there was trouble and it's clear they are. Can you imagine them on the couch if Jon was to go out a cattin around with young things? Oh my, I would be worried if I was him. I still think it's all silly rumor. I believe Jon loves his kids way too much to do this type of thing, if they were to ever split, I think it would be in a much different way. (jmo).

Anya said...

I guess in looking at the situation realistically, it doesn't surprise me that the "rumors" would spread from the blogosphere to the supermarket tabloids.

There is a certain price to be paid for celebrity and I think the Gosselins are experiencing that. I don't know why I have less of a problem with tabloids going after this story than individual bloggers. I guess I feel the bloggers are doing it to be mean and to try and destroy the Gosselins (and by extension the whole family). The tabloids? That's what they do. They are in the business to make money and celebrity sells.

Baby Mama, very interesting about the dial-back on the Star site. And MoreCowBell is right on - this isn't the first time we have seen unfounded rumors posted about infidelity. One minute Jon is dating his trainer (in her 40's) and the next he is taking home a 20-year-old. Sorry, don't buy it.

Unfortunately, I don't know that it is that easy to sue for libel in the U.S. For one thing, it would involve bringing a suit that would just bring more attention to the whole thing.

About the only thing I think we have proof of is Jon went to a bar and had a few drinks. Not a crime in my book, but perhaps not the wisest decision in light of the small gang of hate bloggers out to ruin their family at any cost.

Right on Jessica! Everything on the internet is traceable, too.

What possesses people to want to harm others, I'll never understand.

Guinevere said...

Obviously, I don't know the truth of the situation. I'm not inclined to believe anything particularly at this point. What gets me is the excessive joy some people take in the idea of strangers suffering. It's disgusting.

I know that there were people who felt that we were gloating after the PM business, but we really weren't. We were pleased to be vindicated, because so many horrible things were being said about us, but it wasn't like we were taking pleasure in bringing this person down. And this is someone who directly lied to us (and about us). What possible excuse can people make for trying to "take down" (or taking so much pleasure in the downfall of) people who've never done anything to them?

Eileen said...

Guinever, I'm certainly no expert on human behavior, but as far as wanting to see people fail (whether we know them or not), I think to some extent that is just human nature. I think a lot of people find comfort in the failure of others. I think in a lot of ways accumulation of wealth and fame is something people usually admire, but I also think there is a lot of scorn too for people who may have achieved that wealth and/or fame under circumstances that people themselves wouldn't have chosen (such as a Reality TV show). I don't get the outrage though, nor the hate.
I do get how you might not relate to them anymore (that was my situation), but I don't understand the revulsion, why not just stop watching if it's affecting you that negatively?

But I am ashamed and I have to admit there is a little part of me that would revel if Molly ends up dumping Jason (The Bachelor). I don't know any of those people at all, it doesn't affect my life in the least, and yet, something inside me would get a sense of satisfaction if I heard that. Why can't I just wish Molly and Jason the best and be done with it? And most likely in a day or so I will, but I can understand how people get their feelings all caught up in Reality TV shows. I just don't get getting caught up to the extreme.

I find it odd that Jon spoke out about that incident and he has never taken time out to specifically address anything else - - but this, his PR people thought he should talk about and defend his marriage. Why??? Kate and Jon have always stated that they ignore bad-press and don't read about the negative junk so why defend his actions now. Just made me think that there might be more to this and maybe not as innocent as it seems. Why now, why defend his actions now?? Just my opinion - I thought it was odd.

Probably because Jon never made this staement in the first place. Think about it. Why on earth would his PR team publish this in Radar Magazine of all things? Very lame. I can't believe people actually think this is a legitimate statement from Jon.

merryway said...

Sandy F, imo it's all in relation to the article by Jess, to try not to look like a crazy hater group they suddenly stumbled upon some scruples. Same as the new posting rules that went up.

Weed said...

Thanks Stephanie - didn't really put 2 and 2 together about it not really coming from Jon. That would make perfect sense in the fact that the other site is not commenting or letting anything go through about the pictures, Jon or anything else related to that incident. I definitely smell something fishy - just can't quite figure out what it is.
Anyway - back to the show. It broke my heart when Jon mentioned that he couldn't throw anything away that was his father's or a gift from Dad. My mother passed away on her way home from work - it's been 24 years but the pain feels like yesterday. I still cannot get rid of the broken purse she was carrying or anything that was in it, old lottery tickets, tissues - nothing, it's all there from the day she passed. I still pull it out and look through it. It just pulled at my heart when Jon said that and the look of pain that washed over his face - I could feel it. And I kept my fingers crossed that Kate would let it pass and not say a word - it worked!! I'm glad she let him have his moment 'cause with her you never know!!

I think it's silly how people would just automatically assume Jon is cheating based on a photo.

To me, it just looks like he was posing for a pic with fans, and as far as him being red faced...sunburn, windburn, embarrasment could all be a factor. For Star magazine to write an article based on that is absolutely laughable.

I mean it isn't like the photo has him cramming his tongue down someone's throat or groping someone's chest.

The only "evidence" (lol) is the pic and a bunch of random comments on the Internet.

I feel bad for the kids, especially Mady & Cara.

Guinevere said...

I took the statement at face value and didn't question its authenticity. Is it still there? It seems to me that J&K or their reps would have it taken down if it wasn't real.

Anyway, while I'd prefer that the Gosselins just ignore the bullshit, I can believe that if they are working with PR people now, decisions about what to address and what to ignore are probably a bit more complicated, and likely they are going on the advice they are given (since that's what PR people are paid for!).

Who knows. I certainly don't believe it just because a tabloid printed it, but I don't pretend to know the reality of the situation either. As I said before, the bigger story for me is the bile in so many people who take joy in this crap. It's really sad.

I agree..there is a reason why GWOP isn't posting this and it is not out of the kindness of their heart.

The more I read on this whole subject of Jon & Kate, the more disgusted I am with TLC. This whole controversy may be relatively new to me, but no way is this news to TLC. You can't tell me that they (directors, producers, editors, etc.) don't know that this is going on and apparently has been on-going for quite awhile. If I read about all the people that once loved this show and now are turned off, they've read it too. And if they are editing the show to make Kate look bad to drive up ratings shame on them! Is anyone going to tell me that they can't find any footage to show Kate in another light? She was sweet when I watched it, she had her moments, but all in all she was sweet. I liked her, I was drawn to her, I commiserated with her. There are NO tender moments between her and Jon anymore? And even if there's not, they can script them in so she doesn't come off as this shrew I keep reading about! And what's wrong with their PR people? Their job is to protect the image of Jon and Kate! This should have been derailed a long time ago. I don't know who Jon & Kate Gosselin are taking advice from, but whoever it is, they are not doing them any favors. I don't watch the show, I haven't for awhile, it doesn't matter to me if it stays on the air or not, I am not a fan, but this latest has got my blood boiling. I don't know how the fans stand it. I'd be ranting at TLC everyday.

Good point. That makes a lot of sense to me.

Eileen, I do think editing plays a part. I don't think TLC is soley responsible. I am sure the producers play a part too. It's unfortunate that there is the perception that some viewers tune into the show to see "bitchy Kate." I wonder where that "perception" comes from??? Hmmm. I *do* believe the show could be edited with more cute kid moments and less stressed-out Kate and/or bickering. Almost every webisode posted on TLC contains a few moments that I think are worthy of being on the broadcast show....

I won't comment on their motives. How can I get inside their head anymore than I can get inside J&K's head??? (Something that posters on hate blogs do regularly).

I am on a hate blog fast. It has done me a world of good. It has come to my attention, however, that a poster on GWoP called Hannah "unfortunate looking" today. Even when cleaning up their act, they can't resist letting in comments that knock down 4-year-old Hannah. I really don't have words for what I think of people who post this type of stuff...

Can I just ask what happened with J&K's comment on their website a while back that if you want to know the real truth, come here for the info? I think that Jon's statement should have been placed there if it really came from him.

While you can add me to the list of people who think the story is NOT true, Suzy Q. has a point. Jon has a lot to lose if it is, and he admitted it. If it was true, I would expect Jon to lie about it too.

Anya, "unfortunate looking"? What does that even mean? I guess it's a kinder version of "big, fat, ugly..."
I hate to say it, but I don't think it even matters now if TLC tries to make Kate look like June Cleaver, the damage is done. People are seething with hatred towards these two. I don't totally blame TLC, people will hate no matter what, but I do think there is a lot they could have done to alter the situation.
I think you have the right idea staying off the negative, I think I'll follow you.

So, I'm standing in the checkout line at the grocery store and I see TWO tabloids in the rack with the Gosselins and their supposed marriage woes on the covers, right along with Rihanna, Chris Brown, Brad, Jenn and Angelina. One of them has "Gosselins talking DIVORCE! Jon living with his MOTHER! What about the CHILDREN?!" or something along those lines.

Actually, I found the whole thing hilarious. If the haters want to celebrate this "controversy," have at it. But, conventional wisdom says that if you're pictured on the tabloids, no matter if it's true or a lie, that means you've "made it." The fact that these stories blossomed from a photo of Jon with two fans, just speaks to the show's tremendous popularity. The Gosselins aren't being hurt by this. Inconvenienced, maybe. But soon, they'll just sigh and roll their eyes every time another story like this comes out.

Want to know when the Gosselins have REALLY made it? When the tabloids start claiming that Jon is actually gay and that Kate, wanting to keep up with Octuplet Mom, has gone to the infamous fertility clinic in Los Angeles to have eight embryos implanted. Oh, and the sperm donor is the hot Asian actor from Lost. Or maybe the hot Asian doctor who did Jon's hair plugs.

MoreCowbell, I one-up you: I actually read the Star story. (Took it with me to read while walking around the supermarket, but didn't buy it.)

One of the allegations is that he was flirting with and kissing various members of the girl's volleyball team from that little college. The Star quotes the source, who apparently is a member of the team, as saying something like "I don't want it to reflect bad on my team--it was him kissing them." And here I thought kissing was a two-way street...

This story seems to go above and beyond the Inquirer and PhillyMag stories because I think they did talk to sources at these bars/colleges, rather than just repeat what's said on gossip boards. (Paid for information spun a certain way though they may have been.) And that's why Jon Gosselin's PR firm addressed the allegations.

The end of the Star said, "You'll have to tune in and see if they
Gosselins stay together" or soemthing like that. So yeah, ultimately it's good publicity for a show that's so minor, none of my friends or family watch it and I'm reduced to talking about it on the Internet :)

Hannah is a really beautiful child. I think Kate called Hannah her "Hula girl" because she looks like she could be a hula dancer. I agree.

Eileen,
I know people who don't like Kate but don't seethe with hatred for her. I am not so sure that there are all that many people who feel that strongly about Jon and Kate. I suspect it's contained to a few hate blogs where posters feed off each other and it gets increased.

I definitely recommend avoiding comment sections that make you sad or disgusted. I stopped reading comments at the Philly article because some comments were out-of-control nasty and mean. I'm also avoiding a blog that featured regular commenters "enjoying" the Jon rumors. (Not GWoP.) If the rumors were true, it would mean unhappiness for eight little kids, wouldn't it? I just don't see how anyone would publicly endorse celebrating someone's divorce or infidelities or marriage troubles that way, especially if there are children involved. It's happened twice now. It's rather depressing to me.

Well, I think the poster said the line came from the movie "Legally Blonde" - whatever.

She pronounced the rest of the kids "average looking." I don't know if it's me, but adults commenting on children's looks (other than to say something NICE), strikes me as callous and immature.

I totally agree. I find it depressing too and a sad commentary on what others consider "entertainment."

I think that's a valid point. The controversy may be beneficial for certain elements of their career, for example, the show. I think it could prove damaging to other parts, however, such as efforts to land marketing deals or speaking engagements. I think we will have to wait and see how this all plays out. So far, so little credible information is available, it's hard to make a sound judgment.

You know, most little kids are cute. It's part of what makes us biologically successful! Some are cuter than others, and I happen to think the Gosselin kids are cute as bugs. But I agree that if the rare 4-5 year old exists that is "unfortunate-looking", no one needs to be saying that out loud, much less putting it out on the internet.

Thinking more about all of these stupid rumors, what gets me is that I don't know how the "child advocates" even feel justified in taking pleasure in it. I mean, if it were some bad news about the Gosselin family that buttressed their point that the parents are exploitive, etc. - then I could see them finding a way to justify the schadenfraude. But this? This has nothing to do with any of that. It's not related to their precious "TRUTH" at all. Married couples have problems, get divorced, cheat on each other (not that I'm saying any of that is necessarily the case with the Gosselins). It happens. It doesn't make either person a bad person (well, infidelity is wrong, obviously, but just having marital troubles doesn't make one a bad person). If it says something negative about them, then would that apply to every person who has had trouble in their marriage or even (gasp!) been divorced?

So once again, I feel that what we're seeing is people who hold total strangers on TV to way higher standards than they hold themselves to.

Wake me when anyone has anything *new* to say. So far it's just the same mild rumors pinging all around the various gossip sites.

I tell you, assuming J&K aren't estranged/don't get divorced, etc., Kate is not going to let Jon out of her sight for the next 15 years. Look at the trouble he gets into on his own.

You mean to tell me that in several bars filled with college students AND, not to mention, the "house" party he attended, they thought taking pics of Jon STANDING with others posing for a few pics was more important, more shocking than taking pictures of him supposedly kissing, groping and dirty dancing with lots of girls? lolol

I don't buy it for a minute. If it were true pictures and videos of the "good" stuff would have been taken and already spread all over the Internet. I call BS on this one.

Very good points! I agree, if it had happened (with all those cameras around) it would have been photographed.
