I have nothing earth-shattering to discuss, and I know this is so selfish, but today I don't even want to listen to the news. I'm tired of bad news, I'll listen to it tomorrow.
But I do have a question.
Do you think our loved one that have passed on stay involved in our lives? Have you ever asked them for help and guidance? Have you ever felt that they were helping you? Have any of you ever received a message from a loved one that has passed?

Anonymous said...

I like to think that they do stay and help guide us...... its a hard, controversial question and for me there is much more to it than they are just there, but Im not really sure how to put it in words.....

merryway said...

I think those who passed can stay as involved as they want to. I personally haven't asked the help of dead relatives, but I believe others who say they felt as if ____________ was helping them. I can't recall any messages from the other side at the moment, but I believe it is possible.

Denise said...

Eileen, I don't know but I like to think so. My Dad never knew my last 2 kids (damn cigarettes!!) but they are so much like him that I feel he is influencing them somehow.

I understand your feelings about the news; I am just sick of it.

I would certainly like to think that my Mom has stayed involved in my life. I honestly think she has come and touched my life since she's been gone - I don't think I would have ever had my daughter if she weren't guiding some force in my life. I feel her presence at times but it's not an everyday occurance or anything like that. I've definitely asked for help from her in my prayers - mainly a please give me strenght not send me a couple bucks :-) I've actually seen my Mother's presence come out in my daughter - same mannerisms, and my daugther was born after she passed so it wasn't anything she saw - I walked into my daughter's room because I heard her chattering away(she was about 3 years old) she was talking on her play phone and I asked who she was talking to and she said "mamaw Phyllis" - I felt the air go cold and I just turned around and walked out. She was talking to my Mother on that little phone!!! Oh - I still get chills thinking about it. Sorry - - didn't mean to run on but in answer to your question, YES - I do think our loved ones stay involved!!

merryway said...

I was speaking in term of direct messages from relatives. I'm sorry, but I guess it's too early for me to be writing, because my mind just won't sort through the details of my life right now.
But, I have felt the presence of others and had feelings or thoughts because of that presence. I don't think it's abnormal so that's why I prob can't recall at the moment.

I know that my mom has stayed in our lives.

She passed away 2 yrs ago. Every once in a while I can smell her perfume around me. Usually when I need her the most, but sometimes on just a random day.

My sisters also experience the same thing.

My daughters have dreams about her often. Usually the same dream. At the amusement park riding a roller coaster. This was one of their favorite things to do together. I have also read that in children this is how they come through.

I talk to my mom all the time. And it is funny, because I can imagine what she would say back. It makes me chuckle sometimes.

Maybe it is just my way of feeling connected to her.

Just wanted to drop in and say hello. I've been out of commission for quite a while cause of difficult personal times, but enough about me! I've kept up with the blog and have missed you all!

Nina Bell said...

Hi lulubae,

We missed you to. Hope you are ok and feel free to talk about it if you wish. There always seems to be a good group of listeners here.

Eileen,
Good question. I do pray to the dead, who I believe are actually "more alive," all the time. Yes, I believe they care and intercede for me and my family. I have had the experience of being "listened to" and felt empathy and care from the dead. They are saints to me. Lovely avatar, by the way.

Hope all is well lulubae.

jrlover, I've heard that loved ones do come and visit in dreams, I'd like to believe that is true, I've had so many dreams about loved ones that have passed, really significant dreams. I love that your Mom lets you know she is there by her perfume.
Weed, your story gave me chills. And I've had a similar situation with my grandson.
I love hearing all your stories.

Denise, I'm glad I'm not alone. Usually I'm better about not wanting to put my head in the sand. I guess I'm just having one of those days.
lulubae, I hope things are looking up for you now. I'll say a prayer.

Eileen said...

Thanks, Saint, I like the picture too, I figured with Mother's Day coming I'd honor her too.
And I love your avatar, tulips are my favorite flower!

And I agree about our loved ones being Saints in Heaven. I pray to them to intercede for me all the time.

My brother most definitely sent "Buddy" my way in 1997. Even the bigger skeptics in my family circle believe it, too.

My Dad has been showing up in my dreams most recently. I was one who always wanted my Dad's approval on any "grown up" purchase - car, house, appliance, etc. It broke my heart that he never got to see our current home. I know in my heart he would have given me a "thumbs up" but I still wish he could have walked through. I see my Dad though every day in my son's grins and hair.

My Grandmother saw my Grandfather in her bedroom and in her garden. She had a statue of Mary in her garden and the day after "seeing" my Grandpa, there was a rosary around the statues neck. My Mom gave us the statue and now it sits in my front yard and the rosary is still there - has survived all the elements over 30+ years.

Good question Eileen.

Oh my goodness - the headlines on cnn.com is "Is Jon cheating on Kate" frontpage on the website!! Can you believe that - with everything going on in the world - CNN has that story on the front page - it links to a video of people discussing the pictures, etc. - I couldn't listen to the whole thing. Just blows my mind.

Lizzy said...

Weed, I watched the video- OK In Touch Weekly is not exactly on par with CNN here... not sure why they chose to splash this on the front page when there are so many other things going on.

One of the people interviewed said they have not just his family at stake but also the business of what they do. They also said the fact that Jon was defensive shows he is guilty. Gosh, and one of the guys said a Twitter poll counts as journalism nowadays. That's probably about on par with Journalist Jess!! and the like.

They mentioned a reality show is the kiss of death and talk about how other celebs have had shows (i.e. Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson) which just ruins the relationship. At the same time all those people were celebrities FIRST-- Jon and Kate were unknown before the show, so I think its different since they knew what they were getting into.

I'm still just amazed that this is on CNN.com. Seriously.

Just wondering if anybody has read the last few pages of the Princess Boards? If not definitely check it out, they are truly hilarious ladies!

Weed said...

Liza Beth - you and me both. When I went to check the News and saw that on CNN, I almost choked!! Literally - I was chewing a piece of Taffy. Well - they've made the big-time now, huh?!?
I could almost find it funny if it weren't so sad.

Anonymous said...

Weed: Thats just it! Regardless of the true state of their marriage or what Jon was doing splashing it across major news is not good for the kids. Imagine being 8 (almost 9), you know far more than people think you know and you are fully aware of what is going on around you and then for photos of your father, with a woman besides your mom, to be strewn across every magazine and new article would be truly awful.

jrlover said...

On Friday, I think it was, Showbiz Tonight opened the show with J&K. The cheating scandal! I couldnt believe it.

Sad! I enjoy watching because I love the kids, but I think it is time to close up shop and nurture the family. Go with the yearly update specials and call it a day already.

Mom said...

The "kiss of death" thing holds true with alot of celebrity wedding shows. I think it's all very sad. What makes me even more sad is all the "na na na na na 'told you so'" type remarks I'm seeing around the world wide web.

No matter what side of the Gosselin fence you sit on, no one should be wishing divorce or blaming one spouse for their alleged troubles.

Mom said...

I meant to say "reality" shows, not wedding shows.

Can someone provide a link to the princess boards for me?
TIA

Thank you for the link to the princess boards, if I had a day with nothing to do I would go back and read each page.... so funny. Exactly what I would like to say!

Re/ loved ones staying in our lives after they have passed away- I too have sometimes been "helped" by someone who is gone (father, grandmother) through a dream or a memory just when I needed the help. Maybe I dream about them or see someone out of the corner of my eye, hear their voice in my ear (spooky!) or some coincidental thing will happen. I don't believe that ones spirit spends excess time watching us, but will come when we need them, we keep them close in our hearts.

My son goes in on Friday for surgery. I feel prepared this go around as far as what to expect and a bit relaxed about things. Oh and our garden is really starting to take off. Does anyone here garden?

Just saw the preview for the new season! They do a whole episode where Emeril comes to the house and cooks with Jon and Kate and the kids, Kate whacks him with a spatula, cant wait to hear what the advocate/haters make of that one!

Has anyone else seen it? Let me know what you think :)

jrlover said...

Emeril comes to there house?

WHAT? I love him, and want him in my house. :)

I was wondering when the promos would start. When does the new season start?

Just want to say, I have been a lurker for a longtime. I really enjoy reading your opinions. And also appreciate that you all are positive in expressing your opinions.

Morgan said...

The new season starts May 25, I'm not sure if the Emeril episode will be the premiere, but thats how it looks to me!

Q said...

Screw Emril! I want Paula Deen at my house! :) I will take Alton Brown as a close second. But give me Paula. :)

Eileen said...

Three Amazing Kids, best of luck to your son. I'll keep your family in my prayers.
Please update.

Kris, thanks for sharing your stories about loved ones that have passed. And I agree with your opinion on how they come and go in our lives. I've experienced some of the same things you have.

Samantha@IW said...

Ugh- CNN? What are they thinking? Thats disgusting with all thats going on in the world.

The kiss of death.... it does seem that way. Although with the exception of The Hogans haven't they all been newlyweds? Jon and Kate have already been through a lot and have been married for a decade, so hopefully they will make it through this too.

Theresa said...

ThreeAmazingKids--I'll keep your son in my prayers, too.

I'd love to have Paula Deen in my kitchen, too! What fun that would be. I'd also would like the Neelys and Sunny Anderson. And maybe Ina Garten too.

http://www.oprah.com/article/oprahshow/20090430-tows-kfc-coupon-download

Free grilled chicken meal from KFC with coupon you can print off :). Get it downloaded and printed by midnight tonight then you can use it by the 19th (excluding Mother's Day).

My mom and I are excited to try it out-- sounds like a great new trend for KFC (which I don't eat that often)!

Thanks for the link Liza Beth, my family doesn't eat KFC often either because we just aren't into fried foods but grilled would be good I think. :)
