Sad news:

"Actress Natasha Richardson, daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave and husband of actor Liam Neeson, has been injured in a tragic ski accident in Canada, according to several reports.

A source initially told IrishCentral.com that Richardson's injury is critical."

It's kind of morbid, but the thought had gone through my mind tonight as to whether Kate had any anxiety about letting Cara go skiing. Then I saw this sad news.

Anyway, my thoughts are with Ms. Richardson and her family tonight. I hope the injury isn't as serious as is being reported.

That is sad. I really like her. Her sister is on one of my favorite shows, Nip/Tuck (Joelly Richardson). I hope all turns out well. I like her husband alot as well.

Wow, Natasha Richardson and Liam Neeson have been married since 1994. The most recent report I could find states she is in critical condition. She has two sons, ages 12 and 13. My thoughts and prayers are with this family.

I just read on perezhilton.com that she has passed away. Haven't heard elsewhere.

Supposedly she took a fall on a beginner's run, no helmet, but laughed it off and walked away on her own. Later realized something was wrong. Only 45.

Sad.

I looked at the Perez Hilton site. I'm not sure I'll take his word for it. I'm waiting to see what the mainstream media is saying. As of about an hour ago, Howard Stern reported she was in critical condition.

Anya@IW said...

Ugh. TMZ has her being flown to a new hospital at this moment. Whatever the exact situation, it sounds bad.

On a brighter note, I do want to wish all posters and readers a Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Somehow this partial text from an "Irishman's Philosophy" seems appropriate.

"In life, there are only two things to worry about—
Either you are well or you are sick.
If you are well, there is nothing to worry about....."

Here was Perez's latest post:
According to multiple reports, actress Natasha Richardson is being airlifted to a new hospital and is still alive.

Time Out New York is reporting, however, that the actress is "brain dead" and will not survive.

Monday afternoon, Lindsay Kaplan of Time Out New York sent out the following press release:

http://www3.timeoutny.com/newyork/upstaged/2009/03/rip-natasha-richardson-1963-2009/

EXCLUSIVE: Time Out New York learns of actress's untimely death. She will be greatly missed.

Last night it was reported that the actor Natasha Richardson had critically injured her head in a skiing accident at the Mont Tremblant resort outside of Montreal, Canada. Although public reports have not yet confirmed it, sources close to Richardson’s family and friends say they have already been told the awful news: She did not survived the accident.
This precipitate loss is a terrible one. Richardson was only 45 and had two adolescent sons; our thoughts go to them and to her husband, the actor Liam Neeson. The theater world, too, is bereft by her departure. Richardson has been the most verdant new branch of one of the great English theatrical family trees: the child of Vanessa Redgrave and the late Tony Richardson, the niece of Lynn Redgrave and Corin Redgrave, granddaughter of Michael Redgrave. She has pursued the family business with uncommon class and distinction. On Broadway—in Anna Christie, Closer, A Streetcar Named Desire and especially in her Tony-winning turn as Sally Bowles in Cabaret—her work has been elegant, smart and forceful. She will be missed.
Shakespeare’s words from Cymbeline cascade to mind:
Fear no more the heat o’ the sun Nor the furious winter’s rages; Thou thy worldly task hast done Home art gone, and ta’en thy wages; Golden lads and girls all must As chimney-sweepers, come to dust.

As they were the only ones reporting this, PerezHilton.com emailed Time Out New York asking, "This is 100% true????"

Lindsay Kaplan wrote us back, saying, "Unfortunately, confirmed to us by friends of the family. Terrible news. I used to be their boys' camp counselor."

After more than 40 minutes, Time Out New York emailed us again to clarify, saying:

Okay —

Sorry about the confusion. We spoke to source, who confirms "brain dead and will not survive", and therefore, her friends and family are mourning her unofficial death.

My apologies with the semantics issue.

Please let me know if you have more questions — I have copied Michael Freidson, TONY's editor in chief.

Semantics issues?????

Lindsay Kaplan and Micael Freidson should be ashamed at their irresponsible journalism! Especially with something SO serious!

It makes me think of poor Patrick Swayze and how hard it must be to read you are "almost dead" when you might know otherwise or might not like reading that and how hurtful it is to your family. Killing someone before they are dead is a horrible thing for the media to do. Just all in the name of trying to be first....

Lizzy said...

CincyMom, I've been following this on Perez Hilton as well-- looks like Time Out NY messed up big time since now they are saying Natasha is sedated and not brain dead. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

I totally agree that killing someone in print before they are actually dead is really wrong. I cannot imagine the heartache the family is going through now without having to deal with that.

The Natasha Richardson story is so very said. I hope it turns out better than what is being said as of now.

A small rant:
I just want to say that I think Jay Cutler needs to put his big boy shorts on and shut the heck up.
End Rant. :)

The mainstream media has picked up the Natasha Richardson story tonight and is also reporting that she is brain dead and was flown to NYC so her family can say good-bye before pulling the plug. I hope the reports are untrue, but if the mainstream media is on it, I would HOPE there has been some fact checking. They are playing CYA by saying "reportedly," though.

Liam Neeson is Irish. March 17th is supposed to be a day of celebration and merriment for him. If reports are true, it probably won't be from now on. Prayers for their two young sons, too (supposedly the 13 year old was on the ski trip with her when she had the accident, while the 12 year old was in NYC).

Happy Birthday to Anya and to Merryway's daughter. Hope they both have a great day today!

That is so sad about Natasha Richardson. I just read on MSNBC that her family and friends say there's no chance for her recovery. I always thought skiing was dangerous just because of the pros and regulars that get hurt. I remember reading Jill Kinmont's book, The Other Side of the Mountain. As a kid, my impression was that even her friends got hurt a lot and skiing prob wasn't for me. I do wonder (along w/Anya) if Kate was apprehensive about letting Cara go alone w/Jon. I am a control freak like Kate when it comes to my kids (at least when preteen). Only I could prevent/cure whatever might happen.

Does anyone else have spring fever? I am getting ready to put in the vegetable garden in a week or two. I keep one every year at my parent's home and it's a lot of fun for all of us. It's a tradition and they enjoy puttering around it during the summer while I do the heavy stuff. Harvest is always the most fun. My father is unable to putter this year, but will be able to watch. I'm so glad we have the memories of all the previous ones. We still have some broccoli and green beans from last harvest.

Anya, Happy Birthday!! I hope you enjoy.

Thanks Nina, her bd party w/little people around is later on this month. But we are eating strawberry shortcake and getting ready to go fly a remote control Tinkerbell. All the while wearing a giggle gear mask that changes your voice (it's not annoying at all) <-sarcasm. :)

Eileen, The beach sounds wonderful, you made my spring fever increase. Hope you have fun.

Thanks for all the bd wishes for my little one, that's so sweet.

That is so sad about Natasha Richardson. I understand her boys were with her at the time she had the accident. Very tragic and I hope there's some sort of comfort for her family.

Anya@IW said...

Ugh. Feeling kind of down about Natasha Richardson. Very sad.

I did have a wonderful birthday and appreciate all the kind thoughts.

I went and saw "Wicked" for the first time and loved it. I *think* Saint, Lizabeth and NoMoreDrama have seen it already? Anyway, I highly recommend and it was a great way to spend my birthday.

Best birthday wishes to Eileen's husband and Merryway's daughter.

And, yes, Merryway, you bet I have spring fever. One of my presents was a gift card to a garden nursery and I intend to make good use of it! I haven't tackled a vegetable garden yet, but I am thinking about it.

Jenn said...A small rant:

LOL. Are sports stars the biggest babies or what? Somebody looks at them cross-eyed and they claim to have been "disrespected." Geez. No "I" in team, remember...???

Did anyone know that Ron Silvers just passed away? I had no idea he was even sick. I love his work and admired his political stances. I am surprised and will miss seeing him. They dimmed the lights on broadway for him and rightfully so.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/19/rollins.ron.silver/index.html

I watched the video of Nadya bringing home two of the babies. That was unreal and it looked the Beetles were arriving it was a such a mosh of people. It looks like she accepted the help from Gloria Allred. It says there is a peace pact faccilated by Dr. Phil. Is that the new house they were offered? I'm a little behind.

Ron Silver

Eileen said...

I feel very bad about both Natasha Richardson and Ron Silver. I liked them both a lot, and I enjoyed their work.
I had no idea that Ron Silver was fighting cancer. Such sad news these past few days.

Anya@IW said...

Merryway, I did see the news about Ron Silver. I had not heard he was sick either.

I didn't agree with all of his political stances, but in reading a bit more about him, he seemed like an extremely intelligent and accomplished man who was continually learning. It is a shame his life was cut short at such a relatively young age.

I also heard that he had some trouble working in Hollywood after he became more public about the shift in his politics. I don't know if that is true or not. I have heard it alleged before by conservatives. If there is any truth to it, however, I find it very disheartening. We shouldn't ever forget the Hollywood Blacklist of the 1950's.

merryway said...

Anya, I do remember something about him not getting as much work after he supported GW. I always thought it was kind of joke and hoped it wasn't real. I was disappointed in his decision, but I still admired him for stance.

I'm wondering if Natasha Richardson had a pre-existing condiditon. This is so sad. My daughter and I love The Parent Trap. It's hard to believe that could happen to someone so young.

Btw, for those that were talking about Dark Shadows. The first season is now on Hulu. They also just added the first season of Newhart, which made me very happy.

I'll be gone most of tomorrow, but I'll be adding "Dark Shadows" to my "to do" list this weekend. I made my kids watch what I promised would be a VERY SCARY movie (The Spiral Staircase) that I saw when I was young. It was so lame. They laughed at what scared me. I can't wait to see what my preschool mind thought was the spookiest character in the whole world. Thanks, merryway.

Heh. I still remember that years ago, my aunt made my cousin watch "The Bad Seed", promising her that it would be a chilling and disturbing movie. My aunt was SO pissed that my cousin found it funny and cheesy instead. Good times...

Darlene Williams said...

Talking about scary movies. My mother never let my sisters and I watch scary movies as a children so when we got older she let us watch..get this Psycho(1960). I laugh through the whole movie and the shower scene with the rubber knife was priceless. Well it was a classic so I better stop laughing now :)

I remember watching "When A Stranger Calls" two weeks before I was due with my first son and my water broke. I will have to admit, that movie was pretty scary to me at the time and my husband and I still joke about how it caused me to go into early labor.

Ok so I was always warned about this movie by my mom. She always said it was one of the scariest movies....she was afraid to take a shower, etc.

I finally watched it in college and though Norman Bates was creepy, the movie was not that scary to me.

I think I grew up in the generation of gore and a lot of it was pretty mild compared to modern day horror movies. Just my opinion :-)

Off topic (well.... I guess not really since this is open discussion... but you know what I mean!) but do any of you use Twitter? I have had mine for almost a year now and started using it more the past few months. Its been pretty fun so far but I'm wondering if others are addicted to it like I am to Facebook :).

If you do and want to follow me and/or have me follow you, shoot me an email and I'll share my username that way.

Liz,

There was just a blurb on the national news last night about Twitter...about how many people are getting caught using it at inappropriate times (the guy who was doing it during Obama's speech), and how public what they're saying is being made. ;)

What is Twitter, anyway? Is it just another IM-type service?

Lizzy said...

Marci, Twitter is a social networking site-- its considered 'micro blogging' since you can only write sentences that are 140 characters. I think the biggest draw for people is that they can Twitter from their cell phones and blackberrys. That way you can send and receive info and pics immediately on anything and everything.

I don't use it on my phone but I have friends that do and literally say EVERYTHING they are doing when they are doing it. Kinda like the status line on Facebook-- sometimes they make sense or are relevant, other times I read it and think "I did not need to know you just puked/got a ticket/had gas."

In case anyone is interested, here is my Twitter: http://twitter.com/lizabethc

Feel free to take a look :)
